Carrie Underwood had some interesting gossip about one of her strangest backstage experiences at the Grand Ole Opry.
In a recent People interview, she recalled speaking to country legend Vince Gill during an event.
“I was talking to Vince Gill,” she said, “and somebody walked by me and smacked my rear.”
It was a scandalous start to a story to be sure. But the story’s twist was more unexpected than the start.
“It definitely caught me off guard for a second,” she said. “And then I turned around, and that was my first time meeting Ms. Loretta Lynn!”
Underwood didn’t elaborate on why the superstar singer had given her a cheeky slap. But she was clearly enthused about meeting the country singer. She did remember the moment fondly, however.
She called her first time at the Opry “magical,” which occurred right after she appeared on American Idol.

Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums chart makes its seasonal return to our charts menu, as Carrie Underwood’s first holiday set, My Gift, debuts at No. 1. The album was released on Sept. 25 via Capitol Nashville and earned 43,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 1, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
Underwood leads a top 10 filled with familiar favorites during the holiday season, including Vince Guaraldi Trio’s A Charlie Brown Christmas TV soundtrack, Michael Bublé’s Christmas and Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas.
The Top Holiday Albums chart ranks the 50 most popular seasonal albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Oct. 10-dated chart (where My Gift unwraps at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard's website on Oct. 6. Carrie Underwood and John Legend are getting into the holiday spirit with the music video for their new duet "Hallelujah." In the Randee St. Nicholas-directed clip, which premiered through Facebook on Thursday (Nov. 19), the country singer and R&B crooner join forces in a dimly lit, snow-filled room where they beautifully deliver the powerful track. "This song and its message is much needed right now and I'm honored to have it on my Christmas album, My Gift," Underwood said on Instagram earlier in the week. "I hope you like it." "Hallelujah" appears on Underwood's latest album, My Gift, which marks her first full-length holiday project. The set was produced by Greg Wells and includes eight traditional and three original songs. Released on Sept. 25, My Gift recently earned Underwood her eighth total and consecutive No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart.
