"I thought that I was a pretty open, emotional, guy until I started being in a relationship with someone that I really, truly love and, realizing that, 'Oh no, I really have this big ego, and I don’t want to show her that I’m hurting and I don’t want to show her that that offended me, and like I want to be the man, and I want to be strong in this relationship,'" he said. "It actually was hurting our relationship." Mendes also spoke to Sirius XM's The Morning Mashup about how Cabello has supported his new music, including his latest single, "Wonder," and his upcoming album of the same name. "She really was a champion for this album," he said. "I remember back when I first started a lot of the concepts and they felt a little bit intimidating. She was like, 'Go, keep going, keep going.' And she would do this thing like once a month, 'Hey, just a reminder, this concept you're on is incredible. It's going to make people feel something really special. Don't stop. Don't stop. Don't stop.'" http://instagram.com/p/CFxKrkmpMPJ "It was this force of energy that I think was really helpful... 'Cause I think what happens is when you go to write an album, you start writing something and then you start worrying about what people think. And you start thinking about expectations. You start thinking about reactions and then you start changing your album," Mendes continued. "But if you want a world and you want an essence and you want people to feel a certain way, you have to decide and make it and finish it and let it breathe in the world and hope for the best because I guess that's all you can do. And this is the first time I really felt that I've done that with an album." http://instagram.com/p/CFdEoxkJ7or Cabello made her support for the album known publicly with a sweet Instagram post praising her beau. "The world could use some magic, beauty, and Wonder always, but especially right now. @shawnmendes what a gorgeous gift to the world," she wrote. "He’s crafted this album with every last bit of his soul, his spirit, and his essence with the purest of intentions. My love, I’m so proud of the person you are and I’m so excited for people to see and hear your heart."

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello couldn't help but laugh at the video when they watched it. "She was definitely one of the first people [to hear Wonder]," Mendes said. " "I mean, Camila was a part of the whole process. So, she was around as I was writing it conceptually. It's funny 'cause there was like a real time when she was doing her thing and then I was doing my thing and we were together, but like, also working separately and the quarantine brought us together and now we've kind of become one, where we're doing our thing," he concluded. Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello gave birth to rumours that they have parted after not being spotted together for a long time. However, it seems like they were only quarantining together this whole time, getting closer than ever. Mendes, breaking his silence on breakup rumours with Cabello, recently chatted about how quarantining with the Cuban star has changed his life. Speaking to SiriusXM Hits 1's Nicole Ryan and SiriusXM’s Jim Ryan in two separate interviews, the singer said that he and Cabello are one, even though she is in London shooting for Cinderella. "I haven't seen her actually in like a month and two weeks, not that I'm counting," he told Nicole. "She's back really soon and I think it's interesting 'cause when your girlfriend is an insanely talented, real musician who writes her own music, it's scary to write an album around her. And she was with me when I was kind of in the studio doing it," he added.

Shawn Mendes says that although they haven't seen each other, Camila has been a constant source of encouragement while writing his new album.
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have known each other for more than five years and first started setting off dating alarms last year. We've seen them appear to grow closer together during quarantine this year, when they performed a livestream concert and talked about their favorite Harry Potter characters.
They seem to be such a lovely, cozy couple, but like any pair, they've had to do a lot of hard work. During an interview with radio.com, Mendes shared how getting emotional for his music helped his relationship.
"I thought that I was a pretty open, emotional, guy until I started being in a relationship with someone that I really, truly love and, realizing that, 'Oh no, I really have this big ego, and I don't want to show her that I'm hurting and I don't want to show her that that offended me, and like I want to be the man, and I want to be strong in this relationship,'" he said. "It actually was hurting our relationship."

A Netflix Original Documentary only on Netflix, November 23. Wonder.lnk.to/InWonderNetflix With the cameras rolling, Shawn Mendes is exposing who he really is in his new Netflix documentary, “In Wonder.” In a trailer released Tuesday, the Canadian singer, 22, strips down and soaps up in the shower as he reveals how he started out as a performer. “Is it hard to protect that pure thing that started it all?” a voice off-camera asks, as Mendes sullenly nods. “You first get on the stage and ego comes rushing in,” he explains. “I’m just a guy and I love music. Time to surrender.” The documentary, which is slated to be released Nov. 23 on the streaming platform, follows Mendes on his most recent tour, as he traveled to North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The TIFF special event selection also features footage from his early life as he sheds light on his personal “journey toward self-discovery.” “This isn’t a story about a famous musician,” he says. “This is a story about a guy growing up.”

Shawn Mendes will never be the same after the personal growth he's experienced through his relationship with Camila Cabello. During an Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe that aired on Tuesday, Nov. 17, Mendes revealed that he had previously thought of himself as sensitive and open about his battles with anxiety. But through his romance with his longtime girlfriend, he discovered that he was not always as vulnerable as he wanted to be. "I went through a month where I couldn't really even communicate with her because I was struggling with anxiety, and I didn't want her to see me weak," the 22-year-old "Wonder" singer said. "And I was on the verge of ruining our relationship. And then when you come out on the other end, and you're like, ‘Listen, I'm struggling here. It's hard for me to even say this to you.' And everything starts building and growing and getting stronger, and the roots fortify, and you look around, and you're like, ‘Oh, s--t.' Bravery. That's bravery. That's strength." For Mendes, learning to appreciate himself has been vital to the success of the relationship. Looking Back on Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's Year of Viral Moments "You cannot be the best version of a son or a brother or a boyfriend or a friend to anybody if you're not constantly there for you, and you're watching out for you, and you're checking in on your heart and your space and your energy," he said. According to Shawn, he and the 23-year-old "Havana" performer "started giving ourselves a lot more time, which then allowed us to give everything more time and space, if that makes sense."
