In this wonderful subculture of metal, there are always certain musicians we turn towards to digest their opinion on literally any subject. Veterans such as Dave Mustaine and Tom Morello are always ready to share, but perhaps the brightest spotlight of late shines on Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe. Always outspoken, Blythe just posted a blog celebrating the election of metalhead Joko Widodo as Indonesia’s new President. When world events such as Widodo’s election happens, many think ‘WWRBT’ or ‘What Would Randy Blythe Think?’ Thankfully for the musician’s Instagram account, we’ve become privy to that answer on a constant basis. In honor of Joko Widodo, who is a well-known Lamb of God fan, Blythe wrote two posts. Read his commentary, then check out the corresponding photos below: Incredibly, ladies & gentlemen, the new President of Indonesia is a metal head AND a lamb of god fan. No, this is not a joke, yes the photos are real, yes he digs Napalm Death, Metallica, Megadeth, & lamb of god amongst others- holy crap! THE WORLD’S FIRST HEAVY METAL PRESIDENT! Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, the governor of Jakarta & former furniture salesman who was born into poverty, has won the election. I do not know much at all about Indonesian politics, so I can’t comment of their political situation one way or the other, but from what I can tell, Jokowi seems to be a man of the people. Wow. A metal head president- who would have thought? AMAZING. I mean, can you IMAGINE it? This is THE ONLY PRESIDENT IN THE WORLD with whom you can sit down and argue about which Slayer record is the best. Holy crap, it’s too much! I want the Prez to take me on a diplomatic surf summit to Bali. Maybe I can get ambassadorial status. #jokowipleasetakemetoyourislandparadise After receiving a theatrical release earlier this year followed by video on demand availability, Lamb of God‘s ‘As the Palaces Burn’ documentary will be released on DVD Oct. 14 via Epic Records. Originally planned as a chronicle of their 2012 world tour and featuring fans from around the globe, things took a dramatic change with the arrest of frontman Randy Blythe on manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic. It’s a compelling and emotional film, with Loudwire’s review describing it the following way: “’As the Palaces Burn’ is truly unique. The film’s honesty fuels the viewing experience, documenting the abandonment of its own original concept without bailing on the fans. No matter how much you’ve read about Randy Blythe’s Czech trial, ‘As the Palaces Burn’ offers a view never before experienced as Blythe extends his hand for a walk with him in Hell.” The DVD edition of ‘As the Palaces Burn’ has a bonus disc with two hours of unreleased footage. It includes additional material about the effect of Lamb of God’s music on other cultures along with other footage not included in the original film. Pre-order bundles are now available here.

Remember the eighth-grade metal band that got a $1.7 million record deal back in July? Well, they’re not the only young people rocking the H-E-double-hockeysticks out of their instruments. While the heavy metal scene is dude-heavy, YouTube shows us that it won’t be dude-dominated for long. Don’t believe us? Watch these deceptively adorable prodigies display awesome musical expertise. You want to challenge your guitar skills? Try playing along with a Finnish symphonic metal band that has a drummer named Rolf. You’ll be humbled, especially after you watch 11-year-old Zoe Thomson do it flawlessly. Don’t feel too defeated. Zoe has an advantage, because she attends Newbury Rock School. That’s right. They have Rock Schools in England. Move to England, now. Slash may be at the top of his game when it comes to rock guitar, but even the top-hatted one himself has a special place of admiration for young shredder Zoe Thomson. The guitar great was recently shown a news report on the 10-year-old prodigy by another legendary player, Mountain‘s Leslie West, and has hopped on board the Internet sensation’s fan club. Thomson picked up the guitar when she was five and her family has been encouraging her and showing off her talents through YouTube videos ever since. The latest one to go up features Zoe performing Guns N’ Roses‘ ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine.’ It was posted on April 11 and is closing in on 200,000 YouTube views already. In the video, Thomson was 7 years old. Now 10, she’s rocking out in the kid outfit the Mini-Band.

Kiske/Somerville is the debut album of the melodic rock/heavy metal duet project Kiske/Somerville. The album features the collaboration of vocalist Michael Kiske (ex-Helloween, Place Vendome) with American singer Amanda Somerville and was born as a concept put together by Frontiers Records president Serafino Perugino. The album sees Mat Sinner (Primal Fear, Sinner) and Magnus Karlsson (Starbreaker, Primal Fear) handling most of the songwriting, with more contributions from the former After Forever guitarist Sander Gommans and Amanda Somerville herself. Mat Sinner oversaw the production and mixing of the songs at various recording studios in Europe. Michael Kiske is a German singer best known for his early work with the German power metal band Helloween. He has released several solo albums, has participated on various projects such as Place Vendome and Avantasia and has also recorded guest vocals for numerous bands. Amanda Somerville is an American singer-songwriter and vocal coach who works mostly in Germany and was involved in many productions of German producers Sascha Paeth and Miro. She was tapped to replace Dutch vocalist Simone Simons on the Epica’s North American tour with Symphony X due to Simons’ health issues. Amanda is featured on Kamelot's release, Ghost Opera, on their recent album Poetry for the Poisoned, also in the symphonic metal project Aina and she recently toured with Avantasia.

Troy McLawhorn and Garrett Whitlock came in and took it to a newer level. There are special guests on it, such as our brother Clint Lowery, Morgan Rose and Matt O'Rourke."
