Katy Perry - Not the End of the World
Katy Perry's new music video has us doing a double take.
Perry released a video for her song "Not the End of the World" on Monday in which she is played by Zooey Deschanel. The two women have often been mistaken for one another over the years.
"No, no, no! Sorry. Misunderstanding. I'm Zooey," she says in the video after she's abducted by aliens.
Perry shared on Instagram that they filmed the video four months ago.
"I had this idea that Zooey would step in while I was taking a bit of a [maternity] leave ... for so long we've had this funny relationship ... people think we look alike," Perry said.
Deschanel added, "I've had full conversations with people who've thought I was you."

Katy Perry has shared a new video for ‘Not the End of the World’, starring Zooey Deschanel – watch below. The pair are known as lookalikes, and, in the new video, not even aliens can tell the two apart. The idea for the new video stems from Katy Perry’s plan to employ Deschanel as a body double for her while she was on maternity leave. ‘Not the End of the World’ is taken from Katy Perry’s latest album, ‘Smile’. Reviewing ‘Smile’ upon its release in August, NME wrote: “While Perry has returned to her tried-and-tested formula of vivid pop, there’s a missing ingredient. “It’s frustrating, as this is the woman behind some of the most fun – and biggest-selling – songs of all time. But as much as you want ‘Smile’ to be a return to form, her fifth album’s songs fail to grip. All in all, ‘Smile’ lacks the fireworks of Perry’s record-breaking years.”

Katy Perry is finally fessing up. The songstress joined Zooey Deschanel for an Instagram Live chat on Monday, and she revealed that she used to claim to be her to get into nightclubs in Los Angeles. The virtual chat came several hours after the release of Perry's new music video for her song "Not the End of the World." In the video, which stars Deschanel, extraterrestrials -- who are also huge Katy Perry fans -- kidnap the New Girl actress thinking she's the pop star. The music video is a fun tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that both Perry and Deschanel are always said to be lookalikes. As Perry revealed during their chat, it's a truth that she used to use to her advantage. "When I moved to L.A. maybe 18 years ago... I was pretty much a nobody, and you were like just getting so huge at that time, it was like Zooey Deschanel ran the world," Perry explained. "In that moment, I was so complimented to look like you." "But I have to admit something to you," Perry continued. "When I first got to L.A., I went to the club. A lot. And I wanted to get into the club, but I had no money, I had no clout, I had nothing, and sometimes I would pose as you to get into the club." To Perry's shock and embarrassment, Deschanel responded, "Well, I know this." "People were like 'I saw you!' But I'm such a goody two-shoes, and people kept going like, 'I saw you out! I made eye contact with you!'" Deschanel recalled with a laugh. "Then everybody kept telling me about you, 'This girl Katy, she looks just like you,' and I'm like, 'Who is this Katy?'" "And then when I first met you, I was so relieved because you're so pretty, and I was like, 'Oh, thank God. She's so pretty,'" Deschanel added.

No, your Twitter feed was not abducted by aliens. That really was Taylor Swift tweeting "THIS IS GENIUS" in reaction to Katy Perry's new out-of-this-universe "Not the End of the World" video.
The clip, unveiled on Monday (Dec. 21), features Zooey Deschanel standing in for Perry as a pair of blue aliens try to save the stand-in pop star from Earth's imminent destruction.
Swift left the comment on Perry's post announcing the video, adding a GIF of the always effervescent Deschanel expressing some joy during a talk-show appearance.
As you might recall, the two pop superstars had a well-documented three-year disagreement that kicked off with Tay's "Bad Blood" in 2014, which elicited an acerbic subtweet from Perry about watching out for "Regina George in sheep's clothing."
It went on and on, with Perry running down the origin during a "Carpool Karaoke" segment and releasing the not-so-subtle "Swish Swish" in 2017. Perry extended a (literal) olive branch in 2018, setting off a public reconciliation that included a plate of cookies, a cameo by Perry in Tay's "You Need to Calm Down" video, news they might be distant cousins and a very sweet baby gift from Swift in September that warmed Perry's heart.

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift put their differences aside in 2019, but 2020 has brought them even closer than before, with the latter heaping praise and devotion on the former for her newest musical achievement.
The Evermore singer summed up her adoration for Katy's newest video Not the end of the World - succinctly - in a tweet: "THIS IS GENIUS".
Taylor also gifted Katy in September when she sent the Fireworks singer a physical gift; a personalized baby blanket.
"Miss [Daisy Dove] adores her hand embroidered blankie from miss @taylorswift. Hope it’s one she drags around for years till it becomes an unrecognizable shred that she keeps in her pocket as a teenager," the doting mum captioned an Instagram post.
I think it's fair to say this is one feud that won't be returning anytime soon. And Taylor is correct. Katy's epic video, which she released on Monday, is a work of genius, and it even features two very special guests.
August, but little has been revealed about their bundle of joy.
