Avril Lavigne posted an in-studio photo with Machine Gun Kelly and Mod Sun on Tuesday (Dec. 29), sparking speculation that the trio are cooking up new music.
Actually, forget speculation. Avril captioned their Instagram snap: "So are we ready for new music in the new year or what? Lemme know.....[lightning bolt emoji]."
In the pic, Lavigne is standing sideways in a black sweatshirt and camo pants and winking at the camera, while MGK rocks grey sweats and a pink hoodie while flashing metal horns and sticking his tongue. Mod chills right next to him in an all-yellow outfit accented by green hair.
The series of shots includes images of MGK strumming an electric guitar as Lavigne looks on from the couch with a notebook in her lap and Mod shoots video while lying on the floor.
How Machine Gun Kelly Found His Inner Rock Star Additional pics show Kelly recording vocals as Lavigne hangs in the background and Lavigne at the mic taking encouragement from the Tickets to My Downfall rap-rocker, whose recent album found him delving into the kind of pop-punk Lavigne has made her signature for more than two decades.
Earlier this month, Lavigne posted a video of her taking a spin on a new pink custom motorcycle that included an update about the sessions for the follow-up to her emotional 2019 album Head Above Water. In addition to riding around, she also included images from her earlier studio sessions with Mod Sun and album producer/Goldfinger singer/guitarist John Feldman, who has also produced recent songs and records by Good Charlotte, Blink-182, 311, Ashley Tisdale and Korn.
The Lavigne/MGK mind-meld is not as strange as it might seem; back in March, MGK posted a video where he played a bit of Avril's signature 2002 breakthrough hit "Sk8er Boi' on guitar, just months after the apparent pals were photographed hanging out with We The Kings singer Travis Clark.

Avril Lavigne has teased new music set to land in 2021, featuring Machine Gun Kelly. The singer is set to tour the UK next year after the the 2020 European leg of her ‘Head Above Water’ tour was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Machine Gun Kelly: “I’ve been jumping up and down on the table, believing in myself, for-fucking-ever” Now, it seems like she could be bringing new material with her on the tour. Sharing photos from the studio, featuring Machine Gun Kelly playing guitar and singing alongside Lavigne and American rapper Mod Sun, Lavigne wrote: “So are we ready for new music in the new year or what? Lemme know.” http://instagram.com/p/CJZOsjzFZKw Back in October, Avril Lavigne hosted a special livestream benefit concert, #FightLyme, to raise awareness and funds in the fight against Lyme disease. In 2015, the singer revealed she had been diagnosed with the Lyme disease, saying she had been “bedridden for five months”, her revelation quashing various rumours including that she had been in rehab. “I was in bed for fucking two years,” she said. “It’s a bug – a spirochete – so you take these antibiotics, and they start killing it. But it’s a smart bug: It morphs into a cystic form, so you have to take other antibiotics at the same time. It went undiagnosed for so long that I was kind of fucked.”

The different eras of pop-punk are seemingly set to collide later this week as Avril Lavigne and MOD SUN have announced a brand-new single, Flames. The track is due out on January 8, with the pair revealing several days ago that they had hit the studio with Machine Gun Kelly and mega-producer John Feldmann (MOD SUN also worked with MGK on last year’s ace Tickets To My Downfall). “So are we ready for new music in the new year or what? Lemme know…” teased Avril on Instagram, sharing studio photos of her and Machine Gun Kelly both in the vocal booth together, as well as MGK playing guitar. Does this mean he features on Flames too, or is that for something else to come later down the line?! Hmm… http://instagram.com/p/CJZOsjzFZKw Of course, it’s going to be a busy start to 2021 for Machine Gun Kelly anyway. The musician’s Tickets To My Downfall musical, Downfalls High, is due out this month, while he also revealed back in November 2020 that he hopes to release another record this year, too. On his to-do list, he said, was:“Definitely directing a movie, releasing another album, performing Tickets To My Downfall live – that’s necessary. And being a good human, those are all my 2021 top of the list.” Check out MGK, Avril and MOD SUN in the studio together below – and stay tuned for Flames arriving this Friday.

MOD SUN is back with another banger, and this time he has brought along a friend. He's linked up with Avril Lavinge for 'Flames', an emotional and moving track that manages to be as much of a ballad as it does an anthem. Check out how the pair bounce off each other perfectly below: It follows on from 'Bones', which was given its own visual a few weeks back. That looks and sounds like this:

Machine Gun Kelly has shared a medley of songs from latest album ‘Tickets to My Downfall’, while appearing as a musical guest on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’.
During the performance, MGK played snippets from album tracks ‘drunk face’, ‘all i know’ and ‘my bloody valentine’. He was a one-man band for the rendition, performing with a bright pink piano, guitar and sampler.
Watch the medley below:
‘Tickets to My Downfall’, MGK’s fifth studio album, arrived back in September of last year.
In a four-star review, NME praised the musician for helping to revitalise the pop-punk genre, calling it “boisterous, full of sincerity and exciting enough to make you jump on a table in the middle of a board meeting”.
“‘Tickets To My Downfall’ is an album that not only proves MGK can do whatever the hell he likes, but that also maybe pop-punk still has something important to offer the world.”
Earlier this week, MGK – aka Colson Baker – released a trailer for his forthcoming musical Downfalls High, based around ‘Tickets to My Downfall’.
