JoJo Siwa had to deal with a frightening incident over the weekend after the police were called over to her house. During an Instagram live with her friend and videographer, Nate Javier, JoJo says that paparazzi called the police to her home in order to take pictures of her after she had recently come out. "Our house got swatted. We were at our house and, all of a sudden, there was a whole bunch of police telling us to come outside the house. And we didn't know why. we went outside, hands up like you have to. The police were saying that somebody had called and made a claim and then all of a sudden paparazzi came around the corner," she said. "It's called swatting where the media will actually call the police so that way you have to come out outside your house." While it hasn't been officially confirmed whether or not paparazzi were the ones to call the police, swatting doesn't necessarily have to involve someone in the media making the call. Swatting is tricking the police to go to someone's house or location thinking there is a hostage situation or other incidents that will need a large police presence. Swatting has become more popular throughout the years, and in some situations has even been deadly. One incident of swatting, involving a gamer calling the police on another player over Call of Duty, resulted in the death of the victim, as reported by Wired. This happens because the victim does not know what is going on and the police believe they are dealing with a high-risk incident. JoJo continued by saying that she believes it happened due to her recent reveal that she's a part of the LGBTQ community. "I recently told the internet how happy I was and told the internet that I am whatever I am. I told the internet, 'No matter gay, straight, or bi / Lesbian, transgendered life / I'm on the right track baby / I was born to survive.' The only reason why I'm not saying what I am is because I don't really know, but I know I'm really happy and that's all that matters," she continued. "But since I recently 'came out' to the internet, which is officially the term, the media is obviously very excited, which I love and I love the support. However, you know, you could've just hung outside my house and I would've eventually came outside." "I feel bad because there was about 50 police outside my house and those police could have had much better time spent somewhere else actually helping somebody instead of dealing with a fake claim from paparazzi. Literally just come ring my doorbell, paparazzi. I'll wave to you from my window."

The 17-year-old explained in an Instagram video after days of speculation surrounding her sexuality that while she doesn't feel comfortable labeling herself yet, she is the "happiest she's ever been." http://instagram.com/p/CFfRRNcHkHU "I always believed that my person was just going to be my person," JoJo said in the video. "And if that person happened to be a boy, great, and if that person happened to be a girl, great!" She went on: "Right now, I'm super-duper happy and I want to share everything with the world, but I also want to keep things in my life private until they are ready to be public. Right now what matters is that you guys know that no matter who you love, that it's OK."

JoJo Siwa is beloved by millions of kids and known around the globe for her peppy videos and extremely oversize, rainbow-colored hair bows, but after she publicly shared this week that she is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she's gotten even more attention. And although most of it has been in the form of an outpouring of love and support, not everyone was pleased with the 17-year-old star's announcement. In an Instagram video - in which she said, "now that the world gets to see this side of my life, it makes me really, really happy" and that "there is so much love in the world" - a person took to the comments section with a hurtful remark. JoJo could have rightfully responded to this homophobic comment any number of ways, but she chose a single word that has left her followers in absolute awe. "Okay!" she countered. That four-letter word has gotten more than 23,000 likes itself, and JoJo even retweeted a screenshot of the exchange. It was not only the ultimate "high road" response but likely serves as a simple-yet-stark signal that those who don't approve of who she is can move right along. As a fan on Twitter called it, the move was "icon behavior." And even more, it was a powerful reminder to her fans of all ages - and of any identity - that they deserve love, understanding, and respect. For every hateful mom, it seems, there are thousands of kids like this one:

In the small corner of Brooklyn that I reside in, it feels like everyone is queer. Okay, no, they’re not—decidedly not, in fact—but New York does have more openly LGBTQ+ residents than any other metro area. And when you combine that with the fact that most of my best friends are former roommates from my hippieish liberal-arts college, you end up with a cross section of the population that looks a lot like a crowded party scene on The L Word: Generation Q. (Or, at least, it did before the pandemic—now we’re all holed up in our bedrooms, texting each other gay memes.) I only came out a few years ago, but it’s kind of remarkable how quickly queerness shifted from the new, exciting thing consuming all of my thoughts to just, well...the norm. I know that’s largely a function of my identity as a white, cis, straight-passing person who rarely has to worry about blatant acts of homophobia or structural discrimination. But it also feels like a milestone; I feel less like a gayby and more like a person surrounded by other people who just happens to think a lot about Boygenius. All that said, when I found myself crying on my bedroom floor last week upon seeing 17-year-old dancer, singer, actor, and YouTube phenom JoJo Siwa’s coming-out tweet, it felt like my first day of Lesbianism 101 all over again. (No, this is not a real class they make you take, but many of us do flock to Autostraddle for a self-devised syllabus of sorts anyway.) On the surface, Siwa and I have little in common except for our sexualities. She’s an internationally famous child star, which makes her coming out an infinitely bigger deal than me group-texting my best friends at age 24 to say, “ btw i have a date with a girl tonight.” Still, when I saw her publicly claiming her sexuality on Twitter, I felt a mix of pride, euphoria, and—confusingly—envy. To be honest, before last week, I wasn’t entirely sure why Siwa was famous, although I knew she was adored by teens from all over. Now, I’m embarrassingly aware of every fact about her life, from her Nebraska upbringing to her catapult into fame on the reality show Dance Moms.

JoJo Siwa is sharing more about her personal life after coming out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community last month on social media. The 17-year-old performer was a guest on The Tonight Show on Wednesday, Feb. 3, where she told host Jimmy Fallon that she is currently in a long-distance relationship with "the most amazing, wonderful, perfect, most beautiful girlfriend in the whole world." The star did not identify her partner by name. JoJo started out by explaining the origin of the TikTok video that was posted Jan. 20 and featured her lip-syncing to the line "Now you're one of us" from Paramore's song "Ain't It Fun." Members of the Pride House, a collective of LGBTQ+ TikTok creators, accompany her in the clip that spurred speculation that this could be JoJo's way of coming out. "They come over, and we're doing this TikTok, and I was like, I think this TikTok that we're doing to 'Ain't It Fun,' I think this is going to out me," she said. "And I was like, I don't really mind because it is true, I do have the most amazing, wonderful, perfect, most beautiful girlfriend in the whole world. It's not something I'm ashamed of, I just haven't shown the Internet yet. And there's always been speculations, of course, but I was like, I think this is gonna out me." http://instagram.com/p/CK1591_nBpp Remember These LGBTQ Firsts on TV? Sure enough, fans quickly had questions about the meaning behind the video, so she decided to have a little fun before confirming that she was indeed coming out. Over the span of the next few days, she then posted a TikTok of her dancing to Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," followed by a photo that JoJo had taken a week prior of herself wearing a "Best Gay Cousin Ever" T-shirt. It was while JoJo was talking on the phone with her girlfriend that they both decided she should post the T-shirt pic, and even the star's publicist was not aware ahead of time that this would happen.
