National Security Council Strategic Affairs Coordinator Kirby said on the 12th that the United States does not want war with Yemen, but will not hesitate to take further action. President Biden also announced on the 9th that he had authorized a U.S. military strike in response to a drone attack in the Red Sea by Yemen's pro-Iranian Houthi group.
"We have no interest in war with Yemen," he told reporters. "Everything the president has done, including the U.S. military's attack on the 11th, has been to prevent the conflict from escalating," he said.
On the 11th, the United States and Britain attacked targets linked to the Houthis. The attack on a Houthi stronghold is the first since the group began attacking ships in the Red Sea late last year.
