Prince Harry spoke to James Corden about his decision to step back from the royal family last year during a surprise appearance on “The Late Late Show” early Friday. The Duke of Sussex joined the entertainer for a wide-ranging interview, where the two Facetimed with Meghan Markle and Harry even spilled literal tea (while riding on top of a double-decker bus in Los Angeles). Although no carpool karaoke took place, there was some rapping from the prince as he sang “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” theme song. When Corden brought up Prince Harry’s decision to walk away from the royal family, the duke was quick to clarify: “It was never walking away.” “It was stepping back rather than stepping down,” Harry said. “It was a really difficult environment as I think a lot of people saw. We all know what the British press can be like. And it was destroying my mental health. I was like, ‘This is toxic.’ So I did what any husband and what any father would do and was like, ‘I need to get my family out of here.’” “But we never walked away,” he added. “And as far as I’m concerned, and whatever decisions are made on that side, I will never walk away. I will always be contributing. But my life is public service. So wherever I am in the world it’s going to be the same thing.” Corden and the royal were spotted filming on a Los Angeles double-decker bus earlier this month. While CBS didn’t respond at the time to HuffPost’s request, an anonymous source told People that the duo “taped a COVID-appropriate segment of ‘Carpool Karaoke on the double decker’” and that there was “a lot of joking around and laughter” for the longtime friends. Meghan and Harry will appear together on March 7 for a 90-minute primetime special with Oprah Winfrey, aptly titled “Oprah with Meghan and Harry.” This will mark the first on-camera interview for the couple since they announced they were stepping back as working members of the royal family in January 2020. One year after the couple’s decision, Buckingham Palace confirmed last week that the two would “not be returning as working members of the Royal Family.”

Critics are reportedly slamming the timing of Prince Harry’s recent interview with James Corden as “unhelpful” for stealing attention away from Queen Elizabeth’s COVID-19 vaccine push. “When the Queen speaks, as she has done about the vaccine, it is accepted that she has a clear field,” a source told told the Daily Mail about Harry’s appearance Thursday on “The Late Late Show With James Corden” News of Harry’s late-night chat filled the British media Friday morning, hours after the Queen was trying to give a booster shot to the vaccine with an address in which she encouraged the UK public to get jabbed, according to Sky News. She even tried to get attention by talking about her own health matters — an extraordinary step she rarely takes — and saying that when she got the shot it “didn’t hurt at all.” Royals expert Robert Jobson believes the timing of the predictable fall out from Harry’s talk show appearance trampled on the Queen’s important pandemic message. “Timing is everything isn’t it,” he told told the Daily Mail. “On the day that the Queen has issued a very, very important message about the whole of the nation getting the jab, that message has sort of been blurred by Harry, the man who wants a private life, talking about his private life again.” Harry’s talk with Corden was filmed before the Queen confirmed Harry and wife Meghan Markle’s disengagement as senior royals.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey is going to be a must-see event. That's a "duh" statement, we know, but the more we hear about the sit-down, the more we can't wait to see it ourselves. The latest tease-y tidbit about the interview comes courtesy of Gayle King, who shared a little insider secret about the special while discussing Prince Harry's recent double-decker bus interview extravaganza with James Cordon during a segment CBS This Morning. According to King, the interview, which is set to air in March, Oprah herself is calling the special "the best interview she's ever done." Let's just take a beat to let that sink in: Oprah Winfrey says this is the best interview she has ever done. Whoa. "We want to remind you Harry and Meghan are talking to Oprah," King said during the segment, per People. "It's their first major broadcast since giving up their senior royal duties … and I've heard from reliable sources—this is Oprah talking—that it's the best interview she's ever done." Straight from Oprah definitely qualifies as a "reliable source." King admitted that, like probably everyone hearing that fact, the claim has only made her more interested in seeing the interview for herself.

The first look at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey has aired. On Sunday, during 60 Minutes, a teaser of the trio's sit-down, Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special, was previewed on CBS. "I just want to make it clear to everybody there is no subject that's off-limits," Winfrey said in the clip, who later told Meghan, "Were you silent or were you silenced?" and "Almost unsurvivable sounds like there was a breaking point." "My biggest concern was history repeating itself," said Harry, who is expecting his second child with Meghan. At the end of the preview, Winfrey, who is also one of Meghan and Harry's neighbors in their Montecito neighborhood in California, told the couple: "You've said some pretty shocking things here." As seen in the preview, Meghan and Harry will have individual interviews with Winfrey as well as a joint sit-down. In a second preview, which also aired during the 60 Minutes broadcast, Harry spoke about his late mother, Princess Diana. "You know, for me, I'm just really relieved and happy to be sitting here, talking to you with my wife by my side because I can't begin to imagine what it must've been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago," he told Winfrey about the public scrutiny Diana dealt with. "Because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we have each other," Harry said as Meghan agreed.

T&C understands that Meghan specifically chose a dress with a lotus flower for her landmark interview with Oprah because of the symbolism behind the bloom. Her elegant and formal black silk dress by Armani features an embroidered lotus flower on the right hand side. Last year, T&C posted a story about the meaning of the flower, pointing out that it is associated with rebirth and spiritual enlightenment. Our piece highlighted the resilience of the flower and its ability to flourish despite seemingly challenging conditions. It reads: “With its roots latched in mud, it submerges every night into river water and miraculously re-blooms the next morning, sparklingly clean. In many cultures, this process associates the flower with rebirth and spiritual enlightenment.” The piece continues: “With such refusal to accept defeat, it's almost impossible not to associate this flower with unwavering faith. Although cultures have largely dubbed the lotus as a spiritual figurehead, it is most emblematic of the faith within ourselves.” T&C’s story highlighted how the lotus is the perfect gift for anyone recovering from injury or traumatic experience, making it an interesting choice for Meghan, who once described how she had found online trolling “almost unsurvivable.” The Duchess’s comments—which were made during a discussion with podcast Teenager Therapy—are repeated by Oprah during a preview video of her interview. “'Almost unsurvivable,' sounds like there was a breaking point,” Oprah says in a trailer for the conversation. The talk show host also outlined in the teaser: “I just want to make it clear to everybody there is no subject that is off limits.” This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site. Meghan and Harry's chat with Oprah will be aired on CBS at 8 p.m. EST on March 7.
