Shohei Ohtani has looked good from batter's box and the pitcher's mound! He has 3 home runs already this Spring, along with hitting over 100 mph on the radar gun! Is Shotime going to be back in Anaheim this season??
Another game, another home run for Shohei Ohtani. Once again, the Angels two-way star launched a long ball over the center-field batter’s eye on Tuesday in the Angels 17-8 win over Cleveland.
The home run was listed at 464 feet, compared to his previous moonshot estimated at 468 feet. This power-display from the 26-year-old comes one game after he hit two solo home runs in Monday’s 7-3 loss to the Reds.
Ohtani is one of the hottest hitters in the Cactus League, slashing .579/.571/1.211 with four home runs and seven RBI in 19 at-bats.
It’s scary to think what Ohtani can do for a full-season if he can stay healthy. I’ve said it often, and I’ll say it again, having a player who can throw 100 MPH and hit 450-plus foot home runs should not be taken for granted.
On the mound, Ohtani has allowed six earned runs on four hits, while striking out nine and walking three through four innings pitched. It’s not exactly lights-out type of numbers, but it’s only been two starts, and he’s coming back from an injury. The important thing for Ohtani during camp is to get his feet wet and get back to feeling comfortable on the mound, so he’s ready to go in the regular season. Manager Joe Maddon has said Ohtani will be used as part of a six-man rotation and likes what he sees so far.
“Bottle this and keep it for the next 10 years,” Maddon said after Tuesday’s win. “He’s feeling really good about himself.”

The idea of losing Shohei Ohtani’s bat for three days in a row was so unappealing to Joe Maddon that he tried an experiment Sunday.
The Angels manager put Ohtani in the lineup as the leadoff hitter and starting pitcher for Sunday’s Cactus League game against the Padres in Peoria, Ariz.
Although pitchers have hit regularly in the National League, it’s nonetheless an unconventional move with Ohtani because he’s a impactful hitter and he’s at the top of the lineup.
“We’ve been working towards this moment, where he felt good about where he was at pitching wise,” Maddon said. “And of course, he feels good with the swing. Just pop it out there and see what it looks like.

Two-way star Shohei Ohtani made history by both starting and serving as the designated hitter in a 7-4 walk-off win over the White Sox on Sunday night and wowed early with a fastball that reached as high as 101 mph and smacked a 451-foot homer in the first inning, but he left with two outs in the fifth inning after a scary play at the plate.
Ohtani, who became the first pitcher to bat second in a game since 1903, was pitching with a three-run lead in the fifth but ran into control problems. He walked back-to-back batters to load the bases with two outs but remained in the game to face Yoán Moncada despite being at 85 pitches. Ohtani promptly uncorked a wild pitch that brought a run home and then struck out Moncada on a 3-2 splitter, but it got past catcher Max Stassi. First baseman Jared Walsh couldn’t handle the throw, allowing both runners to score.
And even worse for the Angels and Ohtani, he jumped to try to catch the throw back home but landed awkwardly on José Abreu at home plate. Ohtani had thrown 92 pitches and was expected to be pulled from the game regardless but had to gingerly walk back to the dugout after the play. The Angels announced during the game that Ohtani experienced general soreness but wasn't removed due to injury.
Ohtani saw his chance at getting a win on the same day he homered vanish, as he was charged with three runs (one earned) on two hits and five walks over 4 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts.

Shohei Ohtani put his full talents on display Sunday night, pitching 4.2 innings and homering out of the 2nd hole for the Angels. Do you want to see more of him hitting and pitching in the same game? Do you think it can work?
