George Zimmerman's wife has reportedly filed for divorce less than two months after he was cleared of murder over the death of teenager Trayvon Martin. It comes just days after she said in an interview that the ordeal of the trial had put a strain on their marriage. Shellie Zimmerman pleaded guilty last month to perjury for lying about the couple's finances when the judge was setting her husband's bail. Mrs Zimmerman, who was in court without her husband, must serve 100 hours of community service and one-year probation. The 26-year-old woman said in the interview aired on ABC News that she felt "very much alone" without him in the courtroom to support her when she pleaded guilty. During the interview, Mrs Zimmerman said she was "going to have to think about" whether she stayed married to him.

She was frustrated by the justice system, which found her guilty of perjury, and she was sentenced to 100 hours of community service a week ago. Martin was suspended from high school because he was implicated in jewellery theft and he obviously looked suspicious wearing a hoodie when he was walking through a gated community where he was staying as a guest. And Zimmerman also has a history of violence and both Martin and Zimmerman are equally responsible for what happened. Zimmerman had no authority to pursue a suspect and arrest him and he was only supposed to report suspicious activities in his neighbourhood to the police. Martin may have jumped on Zimmerman first and the fight ensured made him pull the trigger in the end but prosecutors are unable to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident so far.

George Zimmerman's wife says she doesn't know the man she's been married to for almost seven years and doesn't think she "ever really knew him at all." Sherrie Zimmerman said she is left with a shattered life. "I stood by my husband through everything and I kind of feel like he left me with a bunch of broken glass that I'm supposed to now assemble and make a lifeā¦It's just heartbreaking," she said. Shellie Zimmerman, 26, stood by her husband throughout the ordeal that began on Feb. 26, 2012 when her husband shot and killed the unarmed teenager and came to an end when a Florida jury acquitted him of murder in July. "I have a selfish husband. And I think George is all about George," she said. abcnews.go.com/US/george-zimmermans-wife-selfish-feels-invincible/story?id=20174763

Sherrie Zimmerman said in the petition that her husband should pay the premiums on the policy since he "has the financial ability to obtain such life insurance at reasonable rates." She also asked for custody of the couple's 2-year-old Rottweiler, Oso, and 8-year-old Leroy, a mixed-breed dog. They have no children.
Shellie Zimmerman, 26, is seeking an equal distribution of their checking accounts, trusts, partnerships and any unknown assets, and asked that a judge prevent him from selling off any property. Among the unknown assets is any money George Zimmerman may get from a defamation lawsuit he has filed against NBC.
The couple, who have been married since November 2007, separated a month after Zimmerman was acquitted in July of any crime for fatally shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February 2012. The Zimmermans aren't living together as husband and wife, said the petition, which suggested Shellie may seek legal fees from her husband for the divorce.

George Zimmerman, the Florida man who was acquitted of murder two months ago in the shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, was questioned on Monday by police after his estranged wife called 911 saying he threatened her with a gun. "He's in his car and he continually has his hand on his gun and keeps saying step closer ... and he's gonna shoot us," a breathless and clearly scared Shellie Zimmerman told the police emergency operator, according to the 911 call released by police. "He's just threatening all of us with his firearm," she added.
