Japan's Princess Kako, niece of Emperor Naruhito, paid a courtesy call on Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen on Monday to mark the 150th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The 24-year-old younger daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito, the emperor's younger brother, also visited Palais Augarten and attended a concert by the Vienna Boys' Choir on her first official overseas trip. When the president told the princess that the boys' choir has performed many times in Japan, she replied that she attended one of their concerts. Princess Kako told the president that she is very happy about the active exchanges between the two countries. During her 11-day stay through Sept. 25, the princess will also visit Hungary, where she has been invited also to celebrate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic ties. After attending a commemorative reception in Austria on Tuesday, she will travel to the Hungarian capital Budapest on Thursday, paying a courtesy call on President Janos Ader and attending a luncheon held by the president and his wife Anita Herczegh on Friday.

Asked by Ader about her impression of the streetscape of the Hungarian capital, Princess Kako, dressed in a light-yellow kimono with flower patterns, said that it is "extraordinary beautiful." Earlier in the day, the princess, the second daughter of Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko, visited Gellert Hill, which offers a panoramic view of Budapest. Princess Kako is scheduled to attend a dinner on Saturday to mark the 150th anniversary this year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Hungary. Princess Kako of Akishino, a niece of Emperor Naruhito and the second daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito, is continuing her visit to Austria and Hungary. Earlier in Austria, she paid a courtesy call on Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and attended a commemorative reception. Princess Kako attended a dinner in Budapest to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Hungary. In a speech, Princess Kako said that she hopes that the friendship between the two countries will continue to be cherished. She also visited a national horse farm in Babolna, in western Hungary, where she learned about the history of the farm. She was accompanied by the agriculture minister for a carriage ride. Princess Kako is the younger daughter of the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Japan. She just graduated from the International Christian University in Tokyo where she majored in psychology. She also studied at Leeds University in Britain for nine months from September 2017. As a woman, she is not in the line of succession. Her younger brother Hisahito is second in the line of succession after their father. They also have an older sister named Mako. Her uncle, Naruhito became Emperor after the abdication of her grandfather, Emperor Akihito earlier this year.
