This was a super weekend for the Disneyland Resort as they welcome the all-new Avengers Campus! Although Disney fans are loving the new experiences and can also reminisce on the land that came before it. Before Avengers Campus there was A Bug’s Land. This land was a fan favorite (especially among families and young children) since its opening in 2001. And even though fans of the A Bug’s Life-themed land were feeling mixed about the land closing 2018, many were receptive to a Marvel land to replace it. With the delay of the land’s opening due to the ongoing pandemic, Avengers Campus finally celebrated its grand opening on June 4, 2021. The land features many homages and references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But, there are a few more Easter eggs for Guests to enjoy at Avengers Campus. If you happen to snag a boarding group for the WEB Slingers attraction, you just might catch an Easter egg from It’s Tough to Be a Bug. If you look close enough, you could just catch a glimpse of the three-dimensional glasses used for this past experience. Thanks to a post by Disneyland Resort magic maker Philander (@philanderc85), we have a close-up look of where in the WEB Slingers queue you can find this not-so-hidden gem. Philander’s photo caption reads, in part: Tons of references exist that honor what came before Avengers Campus. Massive Xmas lights hanging over Pym’s Tasting Lab mimic the lights that hung during the holiday season in “A Bug’s Land”. In the Webslingers pre-show, a claw machine in the corner holds a pair of 3D glasses from the former resident, “It’s Tough to be a Bug”. At the test kitchen, a giant ketchup and mustard bottle reference the year DCA opened in 2001 and “Bountiful Valley Farms”, a former land adjacent to the Campus. My favorite of all though, a part from “Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train” inside of Webslingers. http://instagram.com/p/CP09MdphZas

Disneyland’s operations team has been making adjustments to deal with the overwhelming demand to visit Avengers Campus after the new Marvel themed land opened to six-hour lines, a shortage of virtual queue spots for the Web Slingers ride and mobile food order confusion. Avengers Campus debuted on June 4 at Disney California Adventure to a mile-long socially distanced standby line as FOMO Marvel fans waited half the day to see the new superhero headquarters and ride the Web Slingers interactive attraction. Disneyland Resort is focused on providing the best guest experience possible and wants as many guests as possible to visit and enjoy Avengers Campus while working to provide a safe experience in line with state and local COVID-19 guidelines, according to Disneyland officials. Bob Chapek, Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, left, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, and Josh D’Amaro, Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, right, during the opening ceremony for Avengers Campus inside Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, CA, on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. (Photo by Jeff Gritchen, Orange County Register/SCNG) Many of the problems Disney California Adventure faced during the opening weekend of Avengers Campus were related to COVID-19 health and safety restrictions that will be lifted on June 15 — which should help relieve pressure on the park, the new land and the new ride. Disneyland has never opened a popular new land during a pandemic under strict state restrictions mandating theme park and ride capacity, outdoor-only queueing and physical distancing. Disney will have more queue management options and capacity levers to pull with Avengers Campus after June 15. Modeling and predicting visitor behavior before opening a new theme park land is equal parts art and science during ordinary times. Doing so during the tailwinds of a pandemic is unprecedented territory — even for Disneyland crowd management experts. Expect the dynamic situation to continue evolving over the coming days and weeks as Disney looks, listens, learns and adjusts operations in Avengers Campus. Disneyland has been making operational changes and adjustments since Avengers Campus opened and has been getting the vast majority of visitors into the new Marvel land and onto Web Slingers each day. The socially distanced standby queue for Avengers Campus stretched from one side of DCA to the other on opening day. Disney opted not to use a virtual queue or timed entry for Avengers Campus as it initially did with the debut of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Pandemic rules have caused queues to stretch all over DCA and Disneyland in ways visitors have never seen before. The Avengers Campus socially distanced standby queue looks six times longer than it really is with six-foot physically distancing requirements.

Universal Orlando Resort has one of the most popular theme park Twitter accounts because of how interactive and fun the account is. Oftentimes, when a big event happens at Disney World, the Universal Twitter account jumps in with a sassy remark that is purely all for fun and keeps up the image of the ultimate rivalry between the two parks. Knowing this, some Guests may try to instigate Universal to respond with comedy, and they will. Patrick Dougall (@patrickadougall) took to Twitter to post a photo of a Web Shooter from Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure in Disneyland Resort. Patrick took a photo in front of Universal’s rendition of a Spider-Man attraction, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, with the Disney-created WEB Power Band and told Universal: Hey @universalorl … it didn’t work! Hilariously, Universal (@universalorl) responded with a one-liner: Try eBay
