Barcelona and France star Ousmane Dembele has been caught up in a racism controversy after appearing to mock Asian workers in a leaked video that has been widely shared on social media. Dembele and his Uefa Euro 2020 teammate Antoine Griezmann are shown in the video making comments as Asian technicians fix a television in a hotel room, with the clip being circulated on social media on Friday. The 24-year-old has been criticised for racism and classism over the content of the video with some social media users using the hashtag “Stop Asian Hate”. France winger Dembele appears to say to Griezmann: “All these ugly faces, just so you can play PES [Pro Evolution Soccer], aren’t you ashamed?” “What kind of backward language is that?” Dembele asks, among other comments, such as, “Are you technologically advanced in your country or not?” He also laughs while zooming in on one of the workers.

A leaked video has emerged on social media appearing to show France and Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele mocking Asian technicians' background and appearance. It is believed that the technicians were trying to solve a technological problem in a hotel room, with three men in conversation gathered around an illuminated television screen and one wearing a t-shirt with 'The Staff' on the back. But the Barcelona and France winger - in the presence of the men and club and international team-mate Antoine Griezmann - then proceeds to mock their looks, language and country's supposed 'technological advance'. The former Borussia Dortmund star, however, can be heard telling Griezmann: 'All these ugly faces, just so you can play PES [Pro Evolution Soccer], aren't you ashamed?'

Dembele and Griezmann were part of France's Euro 2020 squad, who were knocked out of the competition by Switzerland earlier in the week. The 24-year-old was one of Didier Deschamps many issues during the penalty shoot-out loss in the last 16, when the winger initially refused to come off with an injury. However it is now his off field behaviour that is coming under the microscope, after leaked footage of himself and Griezmann in a hotel room surfaced. The people in the video appear to be hotel workers or technicians, seemingly trying to get the television in the room working for the two footballers. Dembele, recording on Snapchat, is believed to say to his club teammate, "All these ugly faces, just so you can play PES [Pro Evolution Soccer], aren't you ashamed?" He later adds, "What kind of backward language is that?" and "Are you technologically advanced in your country or not?" Whilst Griezmann isn't spotted saying anything during the interaction, the former Atletico Madrid forward is laughing at his friend throughout. The striker's haircut suggests that the video isn't from the recent Euros and reports have claimed it's actually from Barcelona's pre-season tour to Asia in 2019. At that point the Euro 2016 Golden Boot winner had just joined the Catalan giants from Atleti, the pair already knew each other at that time due to being in the national team set up.

France forward Ousmane Dembele has been ruled out of Euro 2020 with an injury, the French football federation said on Monday, in a blow to the world champions' ambitions.
Dembele had come on as a second-half substitute in the world champions' 1-1 Group F draw against Hungary on Saturday and had an immediate impact on their attack, but limped off with an apparent knee injury.
"Ousmane Dembele had an X-ray at the Budapest hospital on Sunday night," the FFF said in a statement, without elaborating on the nature of the injury.
"The recovery time is incompatible with him staying in the squad. After discussing with the player and [team doctor] Franck le Gall, [coach] Didier Deschamps has acknowledged that Ousmane Dembele is ruled out for the rest of the tournament."
Deschamps still has other attacking options behind starters Antoine Griezmann, Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe, with Olivier Giroud, Kingsley Coman and Wissam Ben Yedder in the squad.
France are top of Group F on four points, one ahead of Portugal and Germany and three above Hungary. They take on Portugal in the last round of group games on Wednesday.

Less than a week after the French national team were knocked out of Euro 2020, two of their players have been swept up in a racism scandal. Over the course of the weekend, a video of Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele started circulating on social networks. In it, the two FC Barcelona players mock Asians, but it is unclear when the video originated. The news comes in the wake of France’s elimination in the round of 16 penalty shootout against Switzerland and follows reports of major internal discord within Didier Deschamps’ squad involving Kylian Mbappe, Adrien Rabiot and Griezmann. Now one of their World Cup heroes turned Euro 2020 flops, finds himself in hot water following even more serious allegations. The trigger is a video featuring a grinning and laughing Griezmann and reportedly recorded by Dembele. The two are watching on as a group of men in a hotel, who appeared to be of Asian origin, work on repairing the room’s television in an attempt to allow the players to play Pro Evolution Soccer, a popular video game. The player filming makes fun of the men, talking about "all these ugly faces," before mocking their language. Griezmann grins and laughs. The video is apparently not new, and it's unlikely that it was created during the European Championships given the contrast in Griezmann's hairstyles. Some have speculated the video could date back to as many as two years ago. Irrespective of when it was filmed, the video has sparked outrage under the hashtag #StopAsianHate. There have been calls for the French Football Federation to release a statement and consider consequences for the players involved.
