Russia's President Vladimir Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov denied the rumor that the 62-year-old leader is welcoming the birth of a child with his gymnast girlfriend amid the president's disappearance for the last 8 days. "The information on the birth of a baby by Putin is untrue," Peskov told Forbes Russia. In 2013, Putin announced in a live broadcast that he would divorce his wife Lyudmila after 29 years of marriage. Shortly after, he reportedly began dating Russian gymnast Alina Kabayeva, 32, who was born the same year he married Lyudmila. According to Swiss broadcaster RSI News, Kabayeva and Putin are in Ticino, Switzerland because former Italian leader Silvio Berlusconi recommended the Swiss hospital of Sorengo. "The Russian pair have reserved two rooms at the hospital of Sorengo, one for childbirth and a second for family and bodyguards. The rooms have been occupied for a few days, since the beginning of the week," RSI News reports. The rumor stems from Putin's mysterious absence after canceling two meetings; one in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, and in Moscow with a delegation from the Georgian separatist region of South Ossetia, Reuters reports. Now, the Blick newspaper, Switzerland's oldest tabloid, is alleging that Putin has been out of sight not because of his own ill health - but because his supposed girlfriend, former Olympic rhythmic gymnast and current chairwoman of the National Media Group, Alina Kabaeva (pictured above in 2008), gave birth to the couple's daughter in Ticino, the Italian-speaking region in the south of Switzerland. The Blick report says many cars with Russian license plates have been seen outside a regional hospital in the past few days, and that Putin is friends with a gynecologist who works there. It further claims that this is actually Putin and Kabaeva's third child- following a son in 2009 and another daughter in 2012. Putin already has two daughters with his ex-wife, though little is known about them and the Kremlin has never published a family portrait.

An Olympic gold medal-winning rhythmic gymnast long rumored to have had twins with Russian President Vladimir Putin has disappeared from public view, according to a report. Alina Kabaeva, 37, who reportedly gave birth to boys in April 2019 at a Moscow clinic, has not been seen since she was two months pregnant, the Sun reported. Putin, who has two adult children with ex-wife Lyudmila Shkrebneva, has insisted he had no relationship with Kabaeva, a former deputy in his United Russia Party. “Putin is an intensely private man. He has been hiding his two adult daughters under fake IDs for years,” a Moscow source told the news outlet. “Even now, though he talks about them occasionally, he never names them,” the source added. “If Alina gave birth to his children, her hiding away might be one of the strongest hints pointing to this. He is obsessive about the security of his family.” Kabaeva, who once posed semi-naked in a magazine, is chairwoman of the board of directors of the National Media Group, which won an exclusive contract to deliver Netflix content, the Sun reported. She won two Olympic medals, 14 World Championship medals and 25 European Championship medals. Rumors about her romance with the Russian leader first emerged in 2008.
