Simone Biles has been struggling with her mental health in Tokyo, which prompted the superstar gymnast to pull out of both Olympic all-around finals. While the withdrawal of the biggest star at this summer's games was a shocking development at the time, perhaps Biles' health shouldn't be so surprising. She has ADHD, and it appears she hasn't been able to take her medication in Tokyo. An illegal release of some high-profile athletes' medical data in 2016 showed Biles had tested positive for methylphenidate - better known as Ritalin. The situation led the then-19-year-old star to publicly address her ADHD diagnosis and say she's taken the medication since she was a child to manage her symptoms. "Having ADHD, and taking medicine for it is nothing to be ashamed of," Biles tweeted at the time. "Nothing that I'm afraid to let people know." Ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympics, Biles filed for a "therapeutic use exemption" through the World Anti-Doping Agency, which enabled her to continue taking the drug throughout her breakout competition. However, according to the Associated Kyoto Program - a nonprofit that facilitates travel between the US and Japan - "all medications containing stimulants are prohibited" in Japan. "This includes Adderall, a standard medication used to treat ADHD symptoms in the US," the AKP website says. "If you bring Adderall into Japan for any reason, you risk arrest and imprisonment.

Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles is speaking her mind. The iconic gymnast took to her Instagram stories on Monday to ask her nearly 7 million followers to share their “unpopular opinions” — and what she revealed certainly stirred up some emotions. The posts were trivial at first, with one person writing, “Ketchup is nasty,” to which Biles replied, “NO it’s not.” Another user wrote “Beyoncé is overrated,” to which Biles quipped, “What’s your addy… you deserve jail time for this one.” Then things shifted when someone wrote, “Abortion is wrong.” That’s when Biles shared her own opinions on the issue, explaining she is pro-choice and elaborating on her experience in the foster care system. “I already know this is going to start the biggest argument & may even lost followers BUT,” the medalist started. “I’m very much pro-choice. Your body. Your choice.” “Also for everyone gonna say ‘just put it up for adoption,’ it’s not that easy and coming from someone who was in the foster care system TRUST me, foster care system is broken and it’s TOUGH, especially on the kids & young adults who age out.” “Adoption is expensive… I’m just saying,” she added. “And don’t even come at me if you couldn’t keep a mask on or refused to wear one.”
