Gymnastics superstar Sunisa "Suni" Lee is known for having ice water in her veins, but when it comes to meeting the singer of "Cold Water," that's a different story. Suni, 18, who earned Olympic gold in the individual all-around at the 2020 Tokyo Games, visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, Sept. 30. During the chat, Suni explained that one of the perks of her whirlwind rise to fame was getting to attend the 2021 Met Gala earlier this month, where she found herself in close proximity to the likes of Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber. "I met Rihanna, I met Hailey Bieber—oh, my gosh, I love her," the Dancing With the Stars season 30 contestant recalled to host Ellen DeGeneres. "I talked to her, and I was shaking, and I was like, 'Hi, I'm Suni.' And then I was just telling her how I was dancing to Justin Bieber's 'Stay' for my first Dancing With the Stars dance. And she's like, 'You should tell him.' And I'm like, 'OK.'" But as it turned out, Suni may have been nodding her head yes when she wanted to say no, as she ultimately couldn't quite work up the nerve to approach the 27-year-old Grammy winner. "Then when I got the chance to see him, I got too scared," the athlete adorably shared with a smile. "I was like, 'I'm not doing it.'" This led a surprised Ellen to clarify, "You didn't walk over to him and say hi?" And Suni replied, "No, I was so scared."

Olympian and Auburn gymnast Suni Lee said she was the victim of an anti-Asian attack in Los Angeles that included her being pepper sprayed as a car of people passed by Lee and her friends, who are all of Asian descent. Lee told PopSugar in a profile published Wednesday that she and her friends were waiting for an Uber after she returned from the Tokyo Olympics about a few months ago when a car speed by them shouting racial slurs like “ching chong” and telling them to “go back to where they came from.” The gymnast said one of the passengers in the vehicle pepper sprayed her arm as the car sped away. ”I was so mad, but there was nothing I could do or control because they skirted off,” Lee told PopSugar. “I didn’t do anything to them, and having the reputation, it’s so hard because I didn’t want to do anything that could get me into trouble. I just let it happen.” It’s unclear where the incident occurred. Lee, a Hmong American from Minnesota, was one of the breakout stars of the last summer’s Olympics in Tokyo. She parlayed her success into being cast as a contestant on the 30th season of “Dancing With the Stars.”

Sunisa Lee remains good at gymnastics, be it the Olympics or the collegiate level.
The Tokyo Games gold medallist put on a show in a meet against Kentucky, highlighted with her performance of the nabieva on the uneven bars, a maneuver that had never been seen before in college gymnastics.
The nabieva consists laying out vertically over the high bar, swinging around, then passing over the bar backwards before grabbing it again. It's an exceptionally difficult skill, rated as a "G," the hardest possible rating, and something that Lee used to win gold in the all-around in Tokyo.
That routine landed Lee a 9.975, meaning one judge gave her a 10 and the other a 9.950.
Lee would score even higher on the beam, where she landed 10s across the board, the first Auburn gymnast to ever do so at Auburn Arena, per the program.
Those two performances helped Auburn post a 197.925-197.150 win over the Wildcats, the highest score in program history.
