Jojo Siwa on Ditching Her Bow and Finding Herself During DANCE MOMS (Exclusive) The 18-year-old is forced to lose her bow in her new movie, 'The J Team,' and admits to ET she has discussed ditching her iconic look. Jojo opens up about her style evolution and overcoming the intense coaching of Abby Lee Miller in 'Dance Moms.' 'The J Team' premieres on Friday, Sept. 3, exclusively on Paramount+. Dancing With the Stars host Tyra Banks promised season 30 would be one for the books, and she was totally right. Ahead of the hit ABC dancing competition series returning on September 20, Olympic gold medal gymnast Suni Lee and YouTuber JoJo Siwa were officially named as the first celebrities part of the 2021 Dancing With the Stars cast. Speaking on Good Morning America, the Team U.S.A. athlete and singer both shared their excitement to be hitting the dance floor this fall. The news was announced only a week after Suni began her freshman year at Auburn University in Alabama, the college she’s been committed to since she was 14 years old. Thankfully, she will be taking online classes for her first semester, so she can stay in L.A. and focus on her choreography. Suni is joining the likes of former DWTS contestants who are also decorated gymnasts, including Simone Biles, Laurie Hernandez and Nastia Liukin. “I’m just going to try to do what I normally do,” she told GMA coanchor Amy Robach. “It’s very different than gymnastics but it’s obviously not going to be as difficult … so I’m really excited because I kind of get to have fun and let loose … I’m really excited that I get this opportunity, and I think I’m going to make the most of it.”

JoJo Siwa simply can't wait to begin rehearsals for Dancing With the Stars! The 18-year-old entertainer guest co-hosted Entertainment Tonight on Monday, where she opened up about how excited she is to break barriers on the upcoming 30th season of the dance competition show. For the first time in show history, Siwa will compete with a pro partner of the same sex. "When I read the email it was like, 'Would JoJo prefer to dance with a girl or with a boy?' And I was like, 'Wait, that's an option? Let's absolutely do it!'" the Dance Moms alum recalled. "It was a like, 'Whoa, I'm changing the future' [moment], because I have such a kid demographic. It's making it acceptable, and I love that and I'm so proud of that." Siwa has been patiently waiting to see which female pro she'll be paired up with this season. It sounds like she won't have to wait much longer, however, as rehearsals begin this week! "I actually start rehearsals tomorrow!" she excitedly revealed, telling ET that her "three favorite" pros are Jenna Johnson, Britt Stewart and Lindsay Arnold. "I meet [my partner] tomorrow." Bring on the sequins and the sparkles. ✨ We’re SIWA excited for this! 🎀 #DWTS@itsjojosiwapic.twitter.com/mzwezAm0An — Dancing with the Stars #DWTS (@dancingabc) August 26, 2021 Siwa added that she is a bit nervous about having a background in dance, as it could either help her or hurt her with DWTS fans, and judges Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman. "I'm not gonna hide that I'm a dancer. I was a dancer my whole life," she said. "Am I very out of practice? Absolutely. I perform all the time, but it's different, you know? I don't have to strengthen my legs, and ballroom is different. I've never taken ballroom." http://instagram.com/p/CTLHWhXhJaz "It's gonna help me in a way, but it also is a disadvantage," she continued. "Because I guarantee you the judges are one hundred million percent gonna judge me harder than they do everybody else."

JoJo Siwa thinks she's already got a leg up on her "Dancing with the Stars" competition ... she's one half of the show's first-ever same-sex pairing ... and thinks it gives her an edge.
We got JoJo heading into the 'DWTS' studio Tuesday in Los Angeles and asked her if there's a benefit in a pairing of two female dancers.
JoJo didn't hesitate, telling us there's an absolute advantage in a double helping of girl power ... she says women are just better dancers than men.
It's unclear who JoJo will be paired up with for the upcoming season, but there might have been a clue at the studio ... we got another celeb going, who we believe to be "The Talk" co-host Amanda Kloots, though it's not confirmed.
Whoever it was, they kept their face and body hidden under a reflective face visor.
JoJo, who came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community earlier this year, told us she didn't even know who her partner was going to be before rehearsal ... but it sounds like they're not content with making history, they're coming for the title.

Hold up: Did JoJo Siwa just spill who her Dancing With the Stars partner is? The J Team star revealed that her "groundbreaking" season 30 DWTS pro may be none other than returning champion Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy! After just two rehearsals, JoJo is already gushing about working with her "dream partner" during E! News' Daily Pop on Sept. 2. "So far, it's been amazing," the Dance Moms alum raved, before adding that her girlfriend Kylie joked she shouldn't get too close to the pro dancer. "Before I went to the first rehearsal, Ky tells me, 'Tell her, tell Jenna she needs to leave room for Jesus.'" JoJo is making history as the first DWTS contestant to compete with a same-sex partner. JoJo came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in Jan. 2021, and the DWTS producers gave the YouTube influencer a choice of selecting a male or female pro to be paired with. http://instagram.com/p/CTQSX2XFOgS "When I got the email to be on Dancing With the Stars, I didn't even read the whole email, I just replied yes," JoJo explained. "And then when I read it, they asked me, they said, 'We want to give JoJo the chance if she wants to do, to dance with a female instead of a male. But if she wants to dance with a male and keep it traditional, we want her to be as comfortable and have the best experience ever,' and immediately I was like, that is so groundbreaking, history, it's never been done before and it needed to be done." JoJo added, "I think it's so untraditional and it's amazing." To the young star, it's like she's "already won" the competition thanks to representing same sex couples onscreen. "I've already had so much good come from this show and from this experience, history came from it," JoJo reflected. "My partner and I, we both obviously want to win the Mirror Ball, that's what everybody's there for. But at the same time, we have to work really hard to do that. I'm going to be judged a lot harder because I am a dancer." JoJo also drew on her real-life experiences from her former Dance Moms troupe, led by Abby Lee Miller, when executive producing her film The J Team. "Obviously when you see the full movie, you'll hear that there's some funny lines and funny references that could make you think that," JoJo revealed about Abby's influence.

My father recently asked me, “Who is JoJo Siwa?" "She is going to be on ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ but I’ve never heard of her," he added. I struggled trying to put her massive fame into words for him, a 75-year-old who just figured out how to text photos. My struggle wasn't because she isn't famous, it's almost because she's too famous. I could start with “Dance Moms,” or maybe her huge social media following, or perhaps her inclusion on Time magazine’s 2020 list of the 100 most influential people in the world. But how would she describe her own celebrity? “I think that it depends on who I'm telling what I do,” the 18-year-old told TODAY. “Sometimes it's easy to tell people that I work for Nickelodeon, sometimes it's easy to tell people that I do YouTube, sometimes it's easier to tell people that I have a book that's a New York Times bestseller, you know that just relates to them more. And so it's just about who I'm telling what I do, and then I just shorten the list by telling what I don’t do.” The J Team “I've done a lot of reality TV shows,” she shared. “I sing, I perform, I go on tour. I have sold out over 97 different shows with — what would it be? — like 80 of them arenas. So I've been around the block with that land.” Been around the block she has. In anticipation of her new film “The J Team” streaming on Paramount+ this Friday, the multihyphenate pop star and TV personality sat down with TODAY for an interview via Zoom where she opened up about coming out as LGBTQ earlier this year, if characters in her new film were based on anyone in real life and the greatest misconceptions out there about her. Confidence confusions In 2014, Siwa and her mom, Jess Siwa, rose to prominence first on the "Dance Moms" spinoff "Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition" before she snagged a role as a "Dance Moms" regular, where she went toe with toe with the brazen dance coach Abby Lee Miller. In Siwa’s film, “The J Team,” Tisha Campbell plays brassy dance teacher Coach Poppy, who Siwa promises was not based on Miller.
