Winner's Interview | Isabeau Levito USA | Courchevel 2021 2
Week #2 Women's Gold Medalist is interviewed by Ted Barton
It does not betray expectations even in the free Isabeau Levito. The American athlete in fact won by dispersion the women's individual competition at the second stage of the ISU Junior Grand Prix 2021-2022 figure skating circuit , staged this week in Courchevel (France), showing off a test with multiple points of interest.
The Philadelphia native, contrary to what was thought on the eve, preferred not to attempt the quadruple toe loop, proposing a very clean program, well connected and with a high technical content, based on two double axels and seven triple jumps, among which stand out the three combinations in the bonus zone triple flip / triple toe loop, triple lutz / euler / triple salchow and triple flip / double toe loop; this last element represents the only relevant stain of the entire performance, marked by an unclear entry edge call in the first jump.
Skating without worries also a triple lutz and a triple single loop , capturing attention again both in the three spins and in the sequence of steps (also on this level four occasion), the skater trained by Yulia Kuznetsova earned in the segment 131.10, divided in 69.90 in the technical and in the remarkable evaluation of 61.20 in the components of the program, reaching a total of 202.35. In other words, a dream debut.
Calgary's Kaiya Ruiter has won bronze at the ISU Junior Grand Prix figure skating stop in Courchevel, France, her second consecutive medal on the circuit.
In third place after the short program, the 15-year-old held onto bronze in the free skate, scoring 179.92 points.
Ruiter captured silver a week earlier at another Grand Prix in Courchevel.
"I'm so proud of myself," Ruiter said. "Just getting to practise and compete with some incredible skaters has been just incredible and I feel really excited about that." Isabeau Levito of the U.S. took gold with 202.35 points, while Chaeyeon Kim of Korea was second (191.46).
