As The Blade Turns: Anna Shcherbakova, Alena Kostornaia & Diana Davis 2021 Internationaux de France
David Speltnikov reports on the words of Alexander Zhulin on the performances of Anna Shcherbakova and Alena Kostornaia at the 2021 Internationaux de France and the meteroic "miraculous" rise of Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin in the latest edition of 'As The Blade Turns'.
Two-time Olympic medalist, figure skating coach Alexander Zhulin commented on the performance of Russian figure skaters at the French Grand Prix. The competition was won by Shcherbakova, Kostornaya took 2nd place.
“Shcherbakova is a great fighter. There are no words. Not everyone after such a fall can get together and continue to shine to the end. Anya has a rich, amazing program. Now she is one of the main favorites.
Kostornaya, unfortunately, after the fall, showed nothing in terms of artistry. I just rode and thought: "It's so bad that I tore off the triple axel." Her entire program was held under the auspices of this. If she does not change her attitude and does not understand that she owes everyone, and not her, then the Olympics will not shine for her. She is incredibly beautiful and talented. - Zhulin said in an interview with Sport24 correspondent Anastasia Dragomir.

This week, the top skaters in the world traveled to the 2021 Internationaux de France & 2021 Warsaw Cup. It was dramatic, competitive and very exciting. Viewers are left debating the real order of Anna Shcherbakova, Alena Kostornaia and Wakaba Higuchi after their performances in France. Did Mariah Bell do enough to make the Olympics? Could Gracie Gold surprise at U.S. Nationals? Did Maya Khromykh help or hurt her chances in Warsaw? Why is Alysa Liu in Colorado?
How did Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin suddenly become the second ranked dance team in Russia by only competing at one ISU Grand Prix event? Are Tarasova and Morozov the Olympic favorites? How do Yuma Kagiyama and Jason Brown fit into the Olympic picture? What do we make of the free dance of Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron? What does the injury and fall by Chelsea Liu and Danny O'Shea mean for their competitive futures? Should Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier switch free skates? Are Vanessa James and Eric Radford the favorites to win Canadian Nationals? We break it all down on the latest edition of 'This and That'.
