This week, Tessa Virtue joined other Canadian Olympians by sending a letter to the Canadian Olympic Committee, which had previously supported the IOC’s position on the admission of Russian athletes in a neutral status, and urged not to allow the Russians to compete. Marina Zoueva was contacted and played political chess, while Tatiana Tarasova angered many by equating the letter to the murder of Tessa's fellow friends and competitors. Irina Viner was banned by the FIG while her (ex) husband pressured Russians to be allowed back in fencing. Eteri Tutberidze and Alexander Lakernik are attempting to create a global club skating organization and other countries are pushing back. Meanwhile, Les Supremes Junior was in line to win the 2023 Junior Synchro Worlds until a major error in the free skate. Of course, no one saw it because the ISU moved their stream behind a paywall. Russia says it’s launched a criminal case over attacks in the country’s Belgorod region, just north of the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
Several injuries have been reported and villages have been evacuated after coming under artillery fire.
Two Russian paramilitary groups have claimed responsibility for the attacks, but the Kremlin has continued to blame Ukraine.
