Boris Johnson tells cabinet time to ‘draw a line’ under partygate 10,374 views Jun 8, 2022 Conservative MPs have spent the day taking stock after Boris Johnson lost the backing of two-fifths of his MPs in yesterday's no confidence vote.
There was no sign of insurrection in the Cabinet - who put on a table-thumping show of support at their meeting this morning.
The prime minister told them that it was now time to "draw a line" under the issues his "opponents want to talk about" and he asked them to come up with plans for reform and cost cutting in their departments.

Boris Johnson will try to get his premiership back on track this afternoon as he delivers a major speech in an attempt to move on from Monday's bruising confidence vote.
Mr Johnson will use the speech to announce that households will be given the right to buy the property they rent from housing associations, as they currently can with council houses.
The speech is expected to be wide-ranging as the PM seeks a reset but it will also include a number of new housing policies which have been trailed overnight.

Working people in England will soon be allowed to spend housing benefit on mortgage payments. Boris Johnson said the reform would "turn benefits to bricks" - as part of a new scheme giving housing association tenants the right to buy their homes at a discounted price.
He said the government would refund housing associations so they could build a new house for each one sold - a pledge that could cost billions.
And he promised more reforms to help people face the economic headwinds that he admitted the country was steering into.

Boris Johnson is facing one of the biggest electoral challenges of his premiership on Thursday as two constituencies head to the polls for by-elections.
Wakefield and Tiverton and Honiton will both elect a new MP after the resignations of Neil Parish, who was caught watching pornography in the House of Commons chamber, and Imran Ahmad Khan, who has been jailed for sexually assaulting a teenage boy.
They comes as the Tories stare down dire ratings in the polls and Mr Johnson struggles to recover from months of stories about partygate. Earlier this month, 40 per cent of his MPs voted to remove him from office.
Mr Johnson has pledged to lead his party “to victory again”, but privately there are concerns that losing two seats on Thursday could sound a death knell for his leadership.

Boris Johnson has insisted he will "keep going" as prime minister after two by-election losses overnight and the early morning resignation of Conservative Party chairman Oliver Dowden.
Mr Johnson is in Rwanda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government conference and unable to deal with the political turmoil that has been sparked by losses in Wakefield and in Tiverton and Honiton.
Mr Dowden's resignation letter pointedly did not endorse the idea of Boris Johnson remaining in office.
