[Washington Kyodo] CNN TV reported on the 22nd, citing multiple sources, that the US government has asked the Israeli government to delay its ground invasion of the Palestinian autonomous region of Gaza. The aim is to free hostages from the Islamic group Hamas, which effectively controls Gaza, and to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza. The Israeli government denies it.
The U.S. government believes that multiple Americans are being held by Hamas, and is concerned that a ground invasion could put the hostages at risk. Although the US supports Israel's right to self-defense, it seems possible that the US is encouraging self-restraint behind the scenes.

Israeli warplanes have been striking targets across Gaza early Monday, as another small aid shipment was allowed into the Hamas-ruled teritory.
Israel has said it has stepped up airstrikes in order to reduce the risk to troops in the next stages.
Israel is expected to launch a ground offensive in Gaza after the brutal attack from the terrorist group, Hamas back on Oct. 7.
