He presided over one of the most divisive votes in British history — then he left. In the two-and-a-half years since Britain voted to leave the European Union, former Prime Minister David Cameron has stayed far away from politics and out of the public eye. In the meantime, the referendum he presided over has brought chaos to normally staid British politics. Does he now have second thoughts about setting the wheels of Brexit in motion? He says no. “I don’t regret calling the referendum. I made a promise in the election to call the referendum,” Cameron said Monday night, popping up out of his car to speak with reporters. “Obviously I’m very concerned about what’s happening today but I do support the prime minister in her efforts to try and have a close partnership with the European Union. It’s the right thing to do and she has my support.”

HBO revealed the trailer for its upcoming film Brexit, a Toby Haynes-directed drama about the 2016 Vote Leave campaign that “goes behind the scenes, revealing the personalities, strategies and feuds of the Leave and Remain campaigns,” according to HBO. Set to premiere on HBO and the United Kingdom’s Channel 4 on January 19, Brexit aims to be a dramatic retelling of the highly advanced political campaign that encouraged Brits to vote to leave the European Union — a campaign whose tactics, motivations, and repercussions are yet to be fully understood. The film, an international co-production with BBC Studios, Channel 4, and House Productions, stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the man who spearheaded that campaign: Dominic Cummings.

Theresa May has warned opponents of her Brexit deal that they risk "letting the British people down" as Labour said the prime minister faced a "humiliating defeat" in Tuesday's crunch vote. She urged critics to give the deal "a second look", insisting new assurances on the Irish border had "legal force". She said the "history books" would judge if MPs delivered on Brexit while safeguarding the economy and security. But Jeremy Corbyn said the PM had "completely and utterly failed". And the SNP said the PM was "in fantasy land and the government should stop threatening no-deal".

The group is threatening the departure from the EU, or “Gexit”, the party will campaign to leave if reforms are not met. Party members met in Reisa on Sunday and approved the plot if the EU does not make changes within an appropriate time frame. The party congress is focusing on the campaign before the upcoming European election in May 2019. Their new policy calls for the abolishment of the European parliament, the return of the Deutsch Mark used alongside the Euro and a smaller power held by the European Court of Justice. AfD leader Alexander Gauland said: “We don’t need to abolish the EU, but bring it back to its sensible core.” With the EU structured as it is at the moment, the AfD believes it will eventually be dissolved and fall under its own weight. Mr Gauland has spoken negatively of the “bureaucracy” of the EU, and its “regulation, centralism, redistribution and egalitarianism.” AfD’s leading candidate at the European elections Jörg Meuthen said the party motion was too harshly worded.

Khan - vote result means we should scrap Brexit
London mayor Sadiq Khan reacts to the deal's significant defeat tonight:
“MPs from all political parties realised that this deal would worsen life chances and reduce opportunities for future generations in London and across the UK...
“It is absolutely vital that the prime minister acts immediately to take any prospect of a no-deal Brexit off the table for good. That means withdrawing Article 50.
“We then need a fundamental rethink about how we take this crucial decision. The politicians have failed and in the absence of a general election, the British public must be allowed to decide what happens next.”
