Contestants from 41 European countries and Australia walked the red carpet outside Stockholm's Royal Palace on Sunday, kicking-off Eurovision Song Contest week, which culminates in the grand finale on Saturday. Sweden is hosting the competition after Mans Zelmerlow won last year's contest in Vienna with the electro-pop ballad "Heroes". Hundreds of fans gathered outside the palace to catch a glimpse of the contestants as they arrived to the EuroClub which has been set up just in front of the palace especially for the contest. The draw to determine in which half of the grand finale the Big Five and Sweden will perform in also took place. The so-called Big Five - Italy, France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain - as well as hosting country, Sweden - qualify for the final automatically and do not compete in the semi-finals.

The other half will be decided by the public televote from the same countries. Nicky Byrne of Westlife failed to take Ireland through to the Eurovision Song Contest final. He missed out on a place in the top 10 tonight along with much fancied Agnete from Norway, former Eurovision finalist Kaliopi from Macedonia and Lighthouse X from Denmark. Tonight’s Second Eurovision semi-final was one of the strongest in history with many more than ten countries deserving of a place in Saturday’s final. Here are the countries that qualified: Australia are now the second favourites to win the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest as pundits, fans, experts and journalists were blown away by the power of Dami Im’s vocals in the Eurovision Song Contest semi final. It’s not all good news for our friends down under, as Dami drew a first half slot in the running order. Other favourites Russia and Ukraine are in the second half of the draw. Belgium were the last country to be announced in the second Eurovision semi final. 19-year-old Laura Tesoro was certainly under pressure as her song What’s The Pressure made it through. Her celebrations were one of the highlights of the night as the she has become one of the most popular stars of this Eurovision. Laura drew a first half slot in Saturday night’s Eurovision final. Ukraine’s Jamala stormed into the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest final with one of the performances of the night. Her epic 1944 entry has captured imagination and is clearly different to all the other Eurovision finalists. She’s drawn a second half spot in the final at the Winner’s Press Conference and is now seen as a potential Eurovision winner.
