Tuesday marks exactly nine years since the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. The anniversary comes as the British probe into the missing toddler looks set to draw to a close. Madeleine, who was then nearly four, disappeared from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal’s Algarve on May 3 2007, as her parents dined at a nearby tapas restaurant with friends. Writing for the Official Find Madeleine Campaign, Kate and Gerry McCann said: “As yet another anniversary comes around, we’d like to thank all our supporters for your continued help and commitment in the search for Madeleine, and the hope for her safe return. It has been a very long time but the investigation continues, information is still forthcoming and our hope and resolve continue. Until we have answers, until there is news (real news!), there will always be hope and we will continue to do everything we can to help find Madeleine. The charity ‘Missing People’ is releasing the single, ‘I hope’ on the 20th of May ahead of International Missing Children’s Day. Please support the charity to help all missing children and their families by downloading the song. You can pre-order in the iTunes store at:https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/i-hope-single/id1109372930. Thank you for supporting Missing People and for keeping Madeleine in your heart. Kate and Gerry” Clarence Mitchell, the McCann family spokesman said: “Kate and Gerry will never give up searching for their daughter.” Mrs McCann has returned to the villa where her daughter, who would now be a teenager, was taken from nine years ago. Though countless unverified sightings have been reported and hundreds of theories have emerged, no trace of Madeleine has been seen since.

Madeleine McCann’s mother has returned to the holiday spot where her daughter vanished nine years ago. Kate made a secret visit to Praia da Luz in Portugal, where she says she feels closest to Madeleine, who went missing in May 2007 aged three. The former GP wandered the streets “looking for answers”. She believes her daughter is still in the country. She and her family, from Rothley, Leics, face the ninth anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance on Tuesday. A friend said: “Kate went back to Praia da Luz last month. She didn’t make a big fuss but just went quietly. "She likes to stroll along the beach and relive the happier memories of her and Madeleine together.”

Everything was in place for the McCann's to make an appearance on Lorraine next Thursday, where they would have presumably speak about the new information that has come to light regarding the one leads in the Madeleine case – including the case that British police believe a gang of thieves took Madeleine during a robbery. But they have had to cancel their appearance as, Kate, 48, and Gerry, 47, were left devastated after suffering a £390,000 setback in their libel battle with ex-Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral. Goncalo wrote a book titled Truth of the Lie, in which he accused the couple of covering up Maddie's 'accidental' death, the book has also been allowed to re-published recently. He was also ordered to pay damages last year after it was ruled that he had libelled the couple. Sources have also come forward to state that the couple said to have turned down a number of television and magazine interview offers around the world as they are worried interviewers will focus on the libel loss and not the nine-year hunt for their daughter.

British supporters of a Portuguese cop who claims Madeleine McCann’s parents lied following their daughter's abduction have raised £50,000 for him on GoFundMe. Goncalo Amaral, 57, was told pay the McCanns £360,000 after penning a book claiming they were responsible for Madeleine’s death. The former cop appealed the decision however, and parents Kate, 47, and Gerry, 48, were left fuming last week as three Portuguese appeal judges ruled in his favour. They will now take the case to Portugal’s Supreme Court - which will have the final say on whether Amaral should pay damages. And Brits who support Amaral have raised up to £50,000 to support him in the long-running legal dispute. One wrote on a Facebook page entitled Justice for Madeleine Mccann and Goncalo Amaral: "I donated too and I will keep donating - this man deserves to have his say".

Madeleine McCann's parents have said there is 'always hope' of finding their daughter who vanished nine years ago from their holiday apartment on the Algarve. Kate and Gerry McCann issued the statement to mark the ninth anniversary of three-year-old Madeleine going missing from the resort of Praia da Luz. Portuguese police, working in co-operation with Scotland Yard, reopened the investigation in 2013 amid talk of fresh leads but last year the Metropolitan Police announced it had reduced the number of officers it had working on the case from 29 to four. But despite 9,000 potential sightings all over Europe and even further afield the police are no closer to solving the mystery. Ms McCann said recently she and her husband believe their daughter is still very much alive in Portugal and 'probably never left the country'. She said her years of research into missing people cases had taught her that kidnapped children are usually not taken very far away.
