The most outstanding player in this year's World Series was Dodgers infielder Freddie Freeman (35). He hit four consecutive home runs, including the first-ever walk-off grand slam in Game 1, and tied the World Series record with 12 RBIs, earning him the undisputed MVP honor. Freeman sprained his right ankle at the end of September toward the end of the season. He missed some games in the postseason, but it was revealed on the 31st (November 1st, Japan time), one day after the team won the championship, that he had suffered another serious injury.
According to Jeff Passan, a reporter for the American sports network ESPN, Freeman suffered further tragedy on October 4th. After telling reporters that he was "able to play" about his ankle injury, he headed to the batting practice area at Dodger Stadium. He said that he had felt something strange in his side as he swung the bat, but on his 13th swing, he felt intense pain throughout his entire body. Freeman collapsed to the floor, unable to breathe and unable to get up, and an MRI revealed that he had a fractured sixth rib. According to the reporter, it was an injury that would normally sideline a player for months.
