(Bloomberg): In the trial in which former U.S. President Donald Trump was accused of falsifying business records to hide hush money payments to a former affair partner, prosecutors argued on the 22nd that the former president tried to cover up the scandal. He presented new information and explained how to prove in court that he influenced the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. The defense, however, countered that the payments were only intended to protect Trump's reputation.
This is the first criminal trial in history to have a former president as the defendant. The former president is facing 34 charges for falsifying business records to conceal the fact that he was paid $130,000 in hush money to former porn actress Stormy Daniels. . Prosecutors allege that the former president falsified records by recording repayments to former general counsel Michael Cohen, who had been paying hush money, as legal fees.
