South Korean figure skater Lim Eun-soo established a new personal best to rank fourth in the short program at the junior world championships on Friday. Lim, 14, scored 64.78 points on the first day of the ladies' competition at the International Skating Union (ISU) World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei. Lim's previous career high was 63.73 points, set last October at an ISU Junior Grand Prix stop in Dresden, Germany. Alina Zagitova of Russia is the leader with 70.58 points, followed by defending champion Marin Honda of Japan at 68.35 points. Another Japanese, Kaori Sakamoto, is further back at 67.78 points. The free skate is set for Saturday. Lim began her short program, set to "Besame Mucho," with a clean triple lutz-triple toe loop combination. She nailed two more jumps in her program, a triple loop and a double axel, while also mixing in solid spins step sequences.

Lim, 14, scored 116.03 points in the free skate at the International Skating Union (ISU) World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei. After scoring 64.78 points in the short program Friday, Lim finished with 180.81 points, a new career high by more than seven full points. Alina Zagitova of Russia won the title with 208.60 points overall, beating the 2016 champion, Marin Honda of Japan, by 6.99 points.

Lim began her free skate, set to the soundtrack of "Miss Saigon," with a clean triple lutz-triple toe loop combination. She also executed a solid triple flip and a triple loop. Lim was shakier later in the program, and fell to the ice trying to pull off a triple lutz-double toe loop-double loop combination. She got back on her feet to complete a triple salchow and a double axel.
