Taylor Swift may not have released an album this fall (yet)—as fans have been anticipating—but the singer-songwriter certainly hasn’t let her hit-making talents languish, either. In a Facebook Live on Monday, the Grammy-nominated country music group Little Big Town shared that Swift is the writer behind their latest single, “Better Man,” an emotional ballad about moving on in a relationship. It’s a simple, heartfelt song that harkens back to Swift’s old Nashville sound and roots. “I know I’m probably better off on my own / Than loving a man who didn’t know what he had when he had it / And I see the permanent damage you did to me / Never again, I just wish I could forget when it was magic,” it opens. Apparently, Swift and Little Big Town go way back: “We’ve known Taylor since she was in high school,” said group member Phillip Sweet. “She sent us this song, and it was one that was really special to her,” explained singer Karen Fairchild. “She thought of us because of the harmonies,” adding that the popular foursome knew as soon as they heard it that they would record it. “Immediately, we all had the same reaction,” Sweet said.

LBT earns its third No. 1, while Swift scores her eighth as a writer. Little Big Town notches its third No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart (dated Feb. 11), as the Taylor Swift-penned "Better Man" climbs 2-1. The act inks its first No. 1 since "Girl Crush" ruled for 13 weeks beginning May 9, 2015. LBT first led with "Pontoon" for two weeks in 2012. "Man" tops Country Digital Song Sales for a second week (26,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen Music) and rises 6-4 on Country Airplay (35.2 million impressions) and 7-6 on Country Streaming Songs (4.2 million U.S. streams). Notably, the track is the first Hot Country Songs leader penned by only one person since Tim McGraw's "Humble and Kind," written by singer-songwriter Lori McKenna (April 23, 2016). Before "Humble," Swift had scored the last single-author No. 1: her own "Ours" (March 31, 2012). "Man" is additionally the first Hot Country Songs No. 1 by a group penned by just one author since The Band Perry's "If I Die Young," written by the act's Kimberly Perry, topped the Dec. 11, 2010, chart.

When Little Big Town released their current single “Better Man,” there was on question on everyone’s mind… who wrote it? After several weeks of being played at radio, the GRAMMY-winning group revealed that it was country superstar-turned-pop icon Taylor Swift who had penned the heart-wrenching track. Though the song has been recorded and released by LBT, Swift took the song to Houston over the weekend for her own emotional rendition during a pre-Super Bowl party in Club Nomadic. Upon the start of the song at what is likely to be her only show of 2017, the crowd immediately burst into cheers and applause as Swift played it on the guitar. Equally as excited for the moment was Little Big Town, who immediately shared a photo from Swift’s Instagram and said, “We’ve been waiting for this moment. Absolutely amazing. Thank you, @taylorswift!”

Little Big Town is opening up about why they believe Taylor Swift will always be a Nashville songwriter at heart. The 27-year-old “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” singer wrote the hit song “Better Man” for the country group. While Taylor has now broken records in the pop genre, Little Big Town insists she hasn’t completely parted with her country roots. “She’s a Nashville songwriter,” Little Big Town‘s Karen Fairchild told USA Today. “When you write a song like “Better Man” top to bottom on your own with your acoustic guitar, that’s Nashville. She’s a storyteller. She loves country music. Her last record was more poppy but who knows? Taylor can do anything she wants to. And she will forever be a Nashville girl.”
