Last year, Alina Zagitova's dream came true, as the Russian figure skater received her long-awaited "prize" for her victory in the 2018 Olympics - a three-month-old puppy, named Masaru. Masaru was brought to Russia last May by Japanese politician Takashi Endo and presented to Zagitova during a ceremony at the Metropol Hotel in Moscow, which was also attended by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. It is no wonder that the "dog topic" was on the agenda when the Russian Olympic champion met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a trip to Tokyo. The Prime Minister welcomed Zagitova at his office on Tuesday, congratulating her on the recent success at the World Championships. He also praised the Russian skater for taking care of Masaru. "I’m very happy to welcome you at my residence," the Prime Minister said. "I want to congratulate you on the great success you’ve made in figure skating. "I’m very pleased to see how Masaru is growing up. The Akita [region] can’t wait to see you and Masaru come to visit its historic motherland."

The 2019 ISU Shanghai Trophy, featuring short track speedskating, figure skating and synchronized skating, will be held at Pudong’s Oriental Sports Center from October 3 to 5, according to the organizers. First held in 2016, the Shanghai Trophy is the first tournament that the International Skating Union has named after a city. It’s also an event where both Winter Olympic Games and non-Winter Olympics competitions are held at the same time. The short track speedskating disciplines set for this year’s tournament are the men’s and women’s 1,000 meters, men’s 5,000, women’s 3,000 and 2,000 mixed relay. The figure skating events will see men’s and women’s singles, pairs and ice dance, as well as synchronized skating. This year’s Shanghai Trophy has been scheduled at the beginning of a new skating season, which means that figure skaters and teams will bring brand new programs which they will keep practicing and performing for the rest of the season. According to the organizers, star figure skaters like Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu, Nathan Chen from the United States and 2018 Winter Games gold and silver medalists Alina Zagitova and Evgenia Medvedeva of Russia have been invited. Chinese pair Sui Wenjing and Han Cong have confirmed their participation for the Shanghai event. China’s first synchronized skating team will also make its debut at the world-class competitions in the city. Ticket sales for the 2019 ISU Shanghai Trophy will kick off later in July.

First, a little about the production. Since 2016, I have been waiting for the combat program of Alina Zagitova, set in the style of the “Priestess of Fire”. After the music for the new PP was announced in the summer, hopes flashed with renewed vigor - the music implied "setting on a roll", a relatively low pace and with a slightly reduced total number of bundles. I was not mistaken in the assumptions - the program, on the one hand, was made to "simplify rolling out," and on the other, "on beauty and wow effect." But most importantly, she reveals those positive aspects of Zagitova’s skating, which, well, not only weren’t noticeable, but they didn’t make a bet - on skating. Alina has a very, very good glide, but in previous combat programs it was simply no time to demonstrate it - it was necessary to roll out a huge number of ligaments. In "Cleopatra" you can finally skate ... I will not argue that “Cleopatra” is Alina’s best and strongest production, there is no companion for taste and color. But it’s “Cleopatra” that I see as the most balanced statement in her career ... Well, now a little about the alternative and the choice of music for her ... Unlike last season, where several months passed between the creation of the outfit and the final version of “The Princess and the Cougar” (I was waiting for not only clean rental, but also video with good quality and the correct camera and director work of the show) - Cleopatra did not have to wait. At the very beginning of the season at JO, Alina gave out almost flawless rental, but Japanese experts know how to show FC very well as a rule. As Alina wrote earlier, Alina was put “on the roll” and made in ethnic style. At the same time, it’s not as direct “ethno ethno” as the free skate in Ksenia Sinitsyna’s but stylization, moreover, successful. Alternative should be - Under soft skating and at the same time somewhat tight music. But not sluggish - With a clear rhythm (and preferably pickup on the track - the track is just fire) - Stylized for ethnicity (or better, a mixture of styles) Enigmatic "Hymn" from the popular at the beginning of the century New Age band "Magna Canta" - our choice !!! Well, Egypt is still Africa, I would like for the music to have a certain stylization for African motives. The mixture of African rhythms with Gregorian chorale and seasoned with modern electronic sound is such an eclectic ... And this, by the way, can be fully said about Alina’s free program. Well, why exactly this composition? In the alternative there is a second bottom - a bunch of allusions and hints. I will not voice them in the preamble, let those who wish themselves try to guess.

Reigning world and Olympic champion Alina Zagitova has revealed plans on adding extremely complicated quadruple jumps to her future programs, stressing that she needs to lose weight before attempting the move. http://instagram.com/p/B4hZaTFJ7aX The 17-year-old said that she needs to minimize the risk of injury before trying to land the ultra C jump which has become an essential element in women’s skating since coach Eteri Tutberidze’s girls created the so-called quad-revolution last year. http://instagram.com/p/B4hZmgEpBk2 “I am a person who takes action before speaking,” Zagitova said. “That’s why I cannot promise anything right now. First of all I need to do many things to prepare myself mentally and physically. I need to lose a minimum of three kilos, if not more. This is mandatory.”
