FEAR: The McCanns want the Portuguese and British police to work together UK detectives believe Maddie, left, was snatched by burglars in Praia da Luz in May 2007. But the Portuguese are investigating a dead heroin addict. Last night a friend of Madeleine’s parents said they were worried the “us against them” conflict was hindering investigations. The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “They will not comment on any aspect of Operation Grange while it is ongoing." The source said: “It is obvious that the co-operation between Britain and Portugal isn’t as it should be. “There are two police inquiries going on in two different countries trying to find out what happened to Madeleine and you would want and hope that they would work together.” British investigators are focusing on three local burglars blamed for a string of break-ins at the Algarve holiday resort of Praia da Luz, where Madeleine was staying with her family. In what could be a breakthrough, Scotland Yard honed in on the three men after a painstaking trawl through mobile phone records. There have also been concerns Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange investigation has been caught up in red tape. British police have to send international letters of request to Portugal via the Crown Prosecution Service each time they want officers to carry out investigative work on their behalf. Last night the source close to the McCanns said: “Kate and Gerry hope, for the sake of Madeleine, the two countries’ forces can work together in a joint investigation.”

The head of Scotland Yard has confirmed British detectives have the names of suspects they want to speak to about the abduction of Madeleine McCann seven years ago. British detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine have travelled to Portugal a number of times in the past 18 months amid reports they want to speak to three suspected burglars thought to have been in the area when three-year-old Madeleine vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in May 2007. But no arrests have yet been made. Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe confirmed his officers had the names of suspects, but he declined to comment further.

A secret dossier on burglars kept by Portuguese police is being shown to Scotland Yard detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Now, according to London's Sunday Express, a confidential file has been kept for years by law enforcement officials in Portugal following a series of burglaries in and around the resort that includes details of child sexual abuse during some of the break-ins. One local businesswoman, who spoke anonymously to the Express, said: “It’s been going on for years, well before Madeleine disappeared. Police here are aware of the problem but the public aren’t aware.” A businesswoman renting villas in the area confirmed: “Police have a special file on burglars operating in the area. Most of them are Portuguese and Romanian gypsies. “Burglars go anywhere and everywhere in Luz and normally break in during the middle of the night when you’re asleep. Burglars come in and steal your stuff and sometimes you don’t know about it until you wake up in the morning.” The woman, who does not wish to be named, said from her office in Lagos, four miles from Luz: “It’s been going on for years, well before Madeleine disappeared. Police here are aware of the problem but the public aren’t aware.” Yard detectives to whom the Portuguese break-ins dossier is being made available are reported to be focusing on three burglars who targeted people in Luz.

POLITICAL motives are behind the disappearance of flight MH370 and Madeleine McCann’s parents should remain hopeful they may find her alive, according to crime-solving psychic Angela McGhee. The 56-year-old will talk about her work in helping the police force solve missing people cases at the Isbourne Holistic Centre in Cheltenham on Monday and if it’s anything like our interview, it will prove fascinating. In one case regarding the murder of a pub owner in Staffordshire, her vision resulted in the conviction of three men after she relived “like a film reel” the attack and the vision of a bloodstained body. In another, she helped to track down the body of missing Shrewsbury woman Mandy Franks. “I had a vision of where her body was going to be found,” she says. “I kept saying that it was in the water but since it had been lashing with rain it was 30 miles away from Shrewsbury where they were looking.” So what of some of the greatest mysteries of our time, such as Madeline McCann and the missing plane which has baffled the world in recent weeks? “I haven’t had visions but I have a feeling that something underhand has happened,” she says of the latter. I don’t think it’s a fault with the aircraft. I think it is all political. I do have hope that progress will be made and they find the parts.” In the case of Madeleine however, she has been having visions since day two and has worked extensively with the police on their investigations. “I saw barren land, tall trees and boulders,” she says. “It turned out to be the village of Monchique and they found out that a paedophile ring had been operating near the village. The answer lies there and if I was a parent in their shoes, I would have a glimmer of hope.”

THE return of the Call Centre was always bound to hit the headlines, but this time it’s for the wrong reasons. Ursula Presgrave, who appeared on this week's episode, has angered Facebook users after making inappropriate public comments about missing schoolgirl Madeline McCann and Peaches Geldof on her public Facebook page. Her appearance on the show aired this week in the first episode. Ursula, who branded the Save Britain Money manager “obnoxious” after her stint at the Swansea-based business, posted the insult on her public-facing Facebook page. After writing: “Hate to tell you darling but you look like a r***d version of Madeline (sic) McCann, just saying”, on Tuesday, her comment was quickly branded “sick”, “horrible” and “disgusting” by others on the social networking site. Kiara Cartwright was one of those who responded online, writing: “This makes me sick. Madeleine McCann was an innocent child. “What if you had a child taken off you like that and you hadn’t heard or seen your baby in years and you have no idea what happened to them and then you see someone write something like this about them?” She said the comment about Madeline McCann she had made was a "mere joke". "It's not aimed at any one particular person or category. "I think people will jump on a bandwagon just to get noticed. "They'll only do that on social media and on Facebook. Outside of Facebook they act differently." "Why should I have to change my life and my ways and opinions and thoughts for society. Would society do that for me. I am not being funny but everyone was made to be who they are."
