Madeleine McCann's parents have sent a touching message to their messing daughter on what would be her 14th birthday. Kate, 49, and Gerry McCann, 48, are to mark the occasion by laying presents in Maddie's bedroom at their Leicestershire home. The room has become a shrine to the girl, who vanished 10 years ago - aged three - while on a family holiday in Praia da Luz in Portugal. Alongside a photo of her, Maddie's parents wrote on Facebook: 'Happy 14th Birthday, Madeleine! We love you and we're waiting for you and we're never going to give up.'

The hunt for the woman, who was spotted close to where the three year old went missing, is the critical lead in the investigation and has been described as “a hugely significant line of inquiry”. The news comes as Madeleine’s parents gave a moving interview to mark the tenth anniversary of her disappearance. Last month we revealed that the police had identified a person they wanted to question having been given an extra £85,000 to follow up the crucial lead. The hunt was due to end within weeks as funding ran out. But the fresh development means funding for the investigation will continue until September.

Madeleine McCann's parents have told the BBC they will do "whatever it takes, for as long as it takes" to find their missing daughter. Next week sees the 10th anniversary of her disappearance, aged three, from an apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal. The couple, from Rothley in Leicestershire, said "real progress" had been made by the Metropolitan Police over the past five years.

Shoppers were horrified to see a sticker on a book about Madeleine McCann which read, 'when it's gone it's gone'. The label advertised a 60 per cent reduction on a new study of Madeleine's disappearance in discount store The Works, where it was spotted by a Twitter user. She posted an image of the blunder with the caption, 'Of all the price sticker choices...'

"There is still hope that we can find Madeleine," Kate McCann said. She has described the impending anniversary of her daughter's disappearance as a "horrible marker of time, stolen time", but said she was no less hopeful of finding Madeleine than she had been in 2007.
