Investigators in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have travelled to Bulgaria to pursue a new lead, it has been revealed.



Following a credible new tip, detectives are seeking a mysterious figure known as "the woman in purple", who may be the key to the decade-long mystery.



The Sun newspaper has revealed the woman's now-dead husband was a convicted paedophile.

A mystery woman police are searching for in connection with Leicestershire girl Madeleine McCann's disappearance has been identified, a criminologist claims.

Detectives at Scotland Yard have been looking to speak to a woman who was dressed in purple and seen standing outside the apartment in Portugal where the family were staying.

Now, criminologist Heriberto Janosch Gonzalez has claimed that he knows who she is.



He claims that the woman is Bulgarian waitress Luisa Todorov and it was reported earlier this month that officers from Operation Grange had travelled to Bulgaria in a bid to track down the woman.

The 58-year-old was working with her husband at the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz when Madeleine vanished in 2007.



Luisa and her husband Stefan, 50, gave statements to police five days after the three-year-old’s disappearance.

They both denied having any knowledge of the case and have not been spoken to again for over a decade.
