However, it is questionable whether enough money is still available for an elaborate determination of this type. A total of 11.2 million pounds (12.6 million euros) has already been invested in the search ( TAG24 reported ). Another 720,000 pounds (810,000 euros) collected Maddie's parents also about their funds.
But even these enormous sums could not be enough in the end. The financial resources for the search for the girl are running low again.
Just over a month ago, however, the Metropolitan Police filed another application for funding. It remains to be seen whether this will be granted and the investigation can be continued around the most mysterious missing person case of all time.

The Yard is to continue the hunt for Madeleine McCann, the Telegraph can reveal ahead of the 11th anniversary of her disappearance on Thursday. The Home Office has granted the force an extra £154,000 in funding which will allow detectives to extend the investigation for another six months. Operation Grange, which was launched by the Metropolitan Police in 2011, is still pursuing several lines of inquiry. It's now 11 years since Madeleine's disappearance from her family's holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz on May 3 2007. Portuguese police shelved its own investigation in 2008, but after pressure from Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, Scotland Yard launched its own inquiry three years later.

KATE and Gerry McCann attended an outdoor gathering in their home village to pray for their daughter who vanished on holiday in Portugal exactly 11 years ago. Crowds of supporters, relatives, friends and locals assembled at the war memorial in Rothley, Leics, where a ‘beacon of hope’ lantern still shines around the clock for Madeleine. Madeleine vanished aged three on May 3, 2007, while the family were on holiday in Portugal.

Her parents said “hope and perseverance remain” on the anniversary of their daughter’s kidnap. In a posting on the official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page they said: “It gets hard to know what to say or write as each anniversary of Madeleine’s abduction approaches then passes. “Life is full and busy which helps but Madeleine is still missing and is dearly missed.” Operation Grange initially had 29 full time officers working on it, who took almost 1,500 statements and collected over 1,000 exhibits.

A GP told police it was him carrying his daughter on the night Madeleine McCann vanished but officers still spent four years trying to identify him, his family revealed today. Julian Totman was carrying his daughter back from a creche when he was seen by one of the so-called 'Tapas Seven' dining with Kate and Gerry McCann in Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007. But despite Mr Totman telling police about his movements detectives on the Algarve continued to hunt for the so-called 'Tannerman' - named after the Jane Tanner, the woman who saw him that evening. Key witness Miss Tanner saw a dark-haired man carrying a child wearing pink floral pyjamas about the time that the four-year-old vanished from her parents' holiday apartment. But it was only an hour later, when she was told that Madeleine had gone, that Miss Tanner realised it could have been the abductor.
