Grace VanderWaal - Sick Of Being Told (Audio) Grace Vanderwaal was just 12 years old when she won the eleventh season of America’s Got Talent with her unique voice and signature ukulele. One year later, Vanderwaal is establishing her own path as artist. She will release her first full-length album, Just the Beginning, in November and is performing at the Austin City Limits Music Festival this weekend. As she prepares for fans to hear her new album, the young singer is hoping to further develop her own identity in music. “[The album] has a different sound, but it is still true to me. I’m still just experimenting, but I think a lot of people will like it.”

Grace VanderWaal is giving fans an inside look at her life inside the studio and inside her music with her latest video. The multi-talented singer opened up about the meaning behind her latest song, “Escape My Mind”. “‘Escape My Mind’ is about feeling like you’re so trapped in your thoughts and hating it, and wishing that you could just sit and not think about anything for just two minutes, in just silence.”

Her performance at this weekend's ACL marks her first visit to a festival of this scale—and her first time performing in Austin. She says her set will be a lot like her, positive and fun. “I’m trying my best to keep it high energy, but I have a couple little surprises in there.”
Those surprises may have to do with sharing some of her unreleased music. Vanderwaal has already released a few songs from her upcoming album, including the infectious “Moonlight” and her most recent song, “Escape My Mind.”
All 12 songs on the album were written by Vanderwaal, an impressive feat for someone who tried out for the talent show that made her famous “just for fun." She adds, "I never expected what happened to happen!”
