Fourth seed Elizaveta Kulichkova wins both the junior singles and double titles at the Australian Open. Elizaveta Kulichkova of Russia stormed past Jana Fett of Croatia to claim her maiden Grand Slam singles title on Saturday. Kulichkova had little trouble at all in her 6-2, 6-1 defeat over Fett that lasted one hour and one minute. “I felt really good. I didn't get as nervous as I thought I [would] get. I'm really happy about the way I played. It was probably the best match through all the week,” Kulichkova said. Kulichkova continued to hit the ball exceptionally well, particularly dominating on her forehand and Fett had no answers for the 17-year-old who sailed through the second set to take it 6-1. “It feels really perfect. I'm pretty happy about what I've done, and I think it's a great achievement for everyone, for every junior,” Kulichkova said after winning the championship. Asked why she didn’t jump up and down in celebration after winning, the confident teen said: “Like I said, I felt I'm going to do this. I was pretty sure. I was really confident. I was the girl who was expected to win.”

Nadal lost 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-3 to Stanislas Wawrinka, ending his bid for a second Australian and 14th Grand Slam title. The Spaniard, 27, had been hoping to become only the third man to win all four major titles at least twice. "The last thing that I wanted to do was retire. No, I hate to do that, especially in a final," he said. The Spaniard revealed that he had felt an issue with his back even before the match had started. "Since the beginning I felt it a little bit, from the warm-up," he said. "At the end of the first set, I started to feel worse. Then at the beginning of the second was the key moment that I felt, during a serve in a bad movement, it was very stiff, very bad."
