The much-anticipated meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will take place at a hotel on the Singaporean island of Sentosa, the White House has confirmed. The 12 June summit was called off two weeks ago by Mr Trump but has since been salvaged after a flurry of contacts between the two sides. Mr Trump said on Tuesday that plans were "moving along very nicely".

Opposition from the country’s powerful armed forces could limit how far Kim is willing to go in dismantling his nuclear arsenal. At a minimum Kim could cite those concerns to Trump as an excuse for moving slowly with denuclearization, Bennett said. The generals probably disapprove of his “seeming willingness to make concessions” with the United States, said Andrei Lankov, a professor at Kookmin University in Seoul. The military is one of the most powerful institutions in North Korea, and its top leaders view the country's nuclear arsenal as essential to its influence in the country. Kim's latest overhaul may be designed to quell that opposition, though it is unclear whether Kim’s action is aimed at eliminating a threat before it emerged or whether he is reacting to growing discontent among military leaders.

North Korea’s state media said on Monday the pair would discuss a “permanent and durable peace-keeping mechanism” on the Korean peninsula, denuclearisation of the peninsula and other issues of mutual concern.
The report by Korean Central News Agency said Kim was accompanied by his foreign minister Ri Yong-ho, defence minister No Kwang-chol and sister Kim Yo-jong.
The US president travelled on Air Force One, which landed at Paya Lebar airbase where he was greeted by the Singapore foreign minister, Vivian Balakrishnan.
The trip follows a tumultuous G7 meeting in Canada, where Trump personally attacked the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau and refused to sign a previously agreed joint communique.

NEW: Pres. Trump on North Korea summit: "I believe we're going to have a terrific success, or a modified success."
US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have arrived in Singapore for their historic summit.
Mr Trump flew in aboard Air Force One, a few hours after Mr Kim touched down with his entourage.
The two men are staying in separate hotels, not far from each other, and are preparing for Tuesday's meeting on the resort island of Sentosa.
Mr Kim told Singapore's PM "the entire world is watching". Mr Trump has called it a "one-time shot" at peace.

Kim Jong Un wasted no time checking out the Singapore nightlife after arriving in unique style for the historic summit with President Trump, stepping out late Monday night local time with a phalanx of North Korean wingmen. Video of the portly potentate prowling the streets of the host city was released live, and showed Kim greeting tourists, taking selfies and visiting sights in the late evening after leaving St. Regis Hotel. The dictator rarely ventures out of the Hermit Kingdom, and has never traveled out of the country in the style seen on the current trip.
