The fact that it was not surprising did not make it any less disturbing. After President Trump assailed Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar at a North Carolina rally Wednesday night, his crowd of supporters broke into a chant, shouting in unison, "SEND HER BACK!" Then, as Kaitlan Collins reported on-air, Trump "paused a moment to let that chant grow some momentum."
The reactions were swift. Former Obama speechwriter and "Pod Save America" host Jon Favreau called it "one of the most chilling and horrifying things I've ever seen in politics." And former Jeb Bush aide Tim Miller tweeted, "I'd say to my friends in DC going along with Trump.
Imagine how this video of the President leading a white mob in a 'Send Her Back' chant targeting a black refugee is going to look in your kids' high school government/history classes."
At the end of his program, Chris Cuomo summed things up succinctly: "Trump says he wants to 'make America great again.' But what he means is 'make America hate again.'"

Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar responded to Trump supporters chanting "send her back" at a North Carolina rally with a stanza from a poem by the late Maya Angelou, later tweeting that she is where she belongs: "at the people's house."
The stanza is from Angelou's well-know poem "Still I Rise."
President Donald Trump hosted a rally in Greenville, North Carolina, as part of his re-election campaign, where he spoke about his recent tweets attacking four freshmen congresswomen, including Omar, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.

President Trump took a lot of heat from his family over the racist chants at a campaign rally in North Carolina on Wednesday. He heard from first lady Melania Trump, his daughter Ivanka and Vice President Mike Pence.
Mr. Trump on Thursday disavowed the chants of "send her back" and said he tried to stop it. "Well, number one, I think I did, I started speaking very quickly," he said.
But the video tells a different story. The president stands in silence for nearly 15 seconds, looking around the arena. When Mr. Trump resumed his speech, he made no mention of the chant, which started after he attacked Rep. Ilhan Omar. The rally left Republicans once again answering for the president.

President Trump on Friday touted the large crowd size at his campaign rally in New Hampshire after critics pushed a critical hashtag to the top of Twitter’s trending items following circulated footage showing some empty seats at the event.
By Friday afternoon, more than 70,000 tweets had been shared using the hashtag #EmptySeatMAGATour, many of which included footage and photos from Trump’s rally at the SNHU Arena in Manchester the night before.
Most footage from the event showed large crowds as the president spoke, though one tweet that went viral highlighted a video clip from MSNBC showing Trump delivering remarks with a number of empty seats off to one side of the stage.
