President Donald Trump's re-election campaign has rejected claims that a social media campaign by Tik-Tok users and K-Pop fans was behind lower-than-expected turnout for Saturday night's Oklahoma rally.
Teenagers are said to have booked tickets without intending to turn up so as to produce empty seats.
But the Trump 2020 team said it had weeded out bogus reservations.
Mr Trump had said he expected one million to come.
The Bank of Oklahoma Center venue in Tulsa seats 19,000. The event was also planned to extend outside, though that part of it was cancelled.
The Tulsa fire brigade is quoted as saying more than 6,000 attended, but the 2020 campaign suggested the figure was much higher.
The team's campaign director said in a statement that "phony ticket requests never factor into our thinking" as entry to rallies is on a first-come first-served basis. Brad Parscale blamed the media and protesters for dissuading families from attending.
"Leftists and online trolls doing a victory lap, thinking they somehow impacted rally attendance, don't know what they're talking about or how our rallies work," Mr Parscale said.
"Registering for a rally means you've RSVPed [confirmed attendance] with a cellphone number and we constantly weed out bogus numbers, as we did with tens of thousands at the Tulsa rally, in calculating our possible attendee pool."

Speaking during what was described as his first "Tele-Rally," President Donald Trump acknowledged to supporters in Wisconsin that the telephonic town hall will be replacing his large, in-person campaign rallies.
"I wanted to be with you, and this is really replacing our rallies that we all love so much, we had great rallies in Wisconsin and all over the country, and unfortunately until this gets solved, and we're doing really well with the therapeutics and vaccines, but until that gets solved it's going to be tough to have those big massive rallies, so I'm doing telephonic rallies, and we'll call them the Trump Rallies, but we'll do it by telephone and we have a lot of people on the line and I appreciate it," Trump told supporters on the line.

WATCH LIVE: Trump holds campaign rally in Freeland, Michigan
President Trump returned to Michigan Thursday for the first time for a public campaign rally since December.
With less than two months before Election Day he visited Freeland.
In the age of COVID-19, a lot has changed in the state and across the country but one thing that has not changed is the way President Trump likes to campaign. He likes to get out in front of people and hold in-person rallies. COVID-19 did not stop him from having thousands of people at MBS International Airport Thursday night.
Watch Live at 7 p.m. ET: President Trump gives a speech in Freeland, Michigan.
“You know this is not the crowd of a person who comes in second place,” says Trump, “You do know that?”
Trump and his thousands of supporters picked up right where they left off but now with a target on his competitor, former vice president Joe Biden.
“He doesn’t know what’s going on,” says Trump.
With just weeks to go for Election Day, gone are the “Sleepy Joe” nicknames and in its place are the platform attacks.

Watch live coverage as President Trump holds a campaign rally in Reno, Nevada.
Kicking off a Western swing, President Donald Trump barreled into Nevada for the weekend, looking to expand his path to victory while unleashing a torrent of unsubstantiated claims that Democrats were trying to steal the election.
Trump defied local authorities by holding a Saturday night rally in tiny Minden after his initial plan to hold one in Reno was stopped out of concern it would have violated coronavirus health guidelines. Unleashing 90-plus minutes of grievances and attacks, Trump claimed the state’s Democratic governor tried to block him and repeated his false claim that mail-in ballots would taint the election result.
“This is the guy we are entrusting with millions of ballots, unsolicited ballots, and we’re supposed to win these states. Who the hell is going to trust him?” Trump said of Gov. Steve Sisolak. “The only way the Democrats can win the election is if they rig it.”
As part of his ongoing crusade against mail-in voting, lawyers for the president’s reelection campaign are urging a federal judge in Las Vegas to block a state law and prevent mail-in ballots from going to all active Nevada voters less than eight weeks before the election.
Addressing a mostly mask-less crowd tightly packed together, Trump spoke in front of mountains draped in haze, the scent of smoke in the air from wildfires raging a state away in California. The president expressed his condolences to the victims but, declaring that “I don’t have to be nice anymore,” focused on tearing into his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden.

This is Mr. Trump's first indoor rally since the Tulsa, Oklahoma, rally on June 20. Oklahoma's top health official said that rally — Mr. Trump's first since the suspending rallies amid the coronavirus pandemic in March — likely contributed to a spike in COVID-19 infections.
