Russian 15-year-old Anna Shcherbakova won the Skate America Grand Prix in Las Vegas on Sunday with a brilliant performance in the free skate. In her senior grand prix debut, Shcherbakova landed a dazzling series of jumps to surge past American Bradie Tennell, who had led following the short program. "I was so excited to skate here and show my program," Shcherbakova said after landing a quadruple Lutz, triple toe combination. "It was a little bit relief but I need to fight for every element until the end, and only when I did my final pose was I so happy." Shcherbakova was rewarded by the judges with 160.16 points, which included no deductions. She let out a broad smile on receiving her score, but was not assured of victory, with Tennell awaiting her turn on the ice. Shcherbakova's total of 227.26 points proved too much for Tennell, who had to settle for second place on 216.14.

Shcherbakova, who trains under Eteri Tutberidze in Moscow alongside reigning world and Olympic champion Alina Zagitova, went on to complete a flawless program which included a triple Lutz-triple loop combination and - incredibly - a costume change.

Russian quad-jumping sensation Anna Shcherbakova has set Chinese ice on fire, displaying yet another dominant performance at the ISU Grand Prix to claim her second straight victory at senior level. The 15-year-old talent left her rivals with no chance after she flawlessly landed two quadruple lutz jumps in the beginning of her free program, scoring 32,95 points for the first two technical elements – practically half of the points collected by compatriot Elizaveta Tuktamysheva for the entire free routine. Shcherbakova, who skated to Igor Stravinsky’s ‘Firebird’ ballet music, charmed the Chinese crowd with her mesmerizing routine during which she transformed her dress, changing its color from purple-blue to scarlet. The quad-jumping prodigy posted the highest score of the day (226,04), beating silver medalist Satoko Miyahara of Japan by almost 15 points. Shcherbakova has become the first skater to qualify for the Grand Prix final. Along with Cup of China, the skater also won the season-opening Skate America in Las Vegas. Tuktamysheva, the 2015 world champion, delivered a solid performance on Sunday, nailing two trixels in her routine.

Anna Shcherbakova (RUS) The delicate Anna Shcherbakova is another fierce competitor that comes armed with two quad Lutzes in her free skating to the Final. The 15-year-old combines her quads with softness and a subtle expression. The 2019 World Junior silver medalist showed some nerves in her Grand Prix debut at Skate America and she has been penalized for wrong edges on her Lutz. While these may be small details, they could definitely make a difference. Nevertheless, the Russian national champion is a medal threat in Torino.
