Jayme Closs was likely at her family's Wisconsin home when her parents were shot dead, and she vanished moments later, investigators believe. The 13-year-old's whereabouts and safety are still in question as a search for her enters a fourth day. "We believe Jayme was in the home at the time of the homicides and we believe she's still in danger," Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said Wednesday.  Since authorities received a cryptic 911 call and discovered the bodies of Jayme's parents in their home near the town of Barron early Monday, investigators have received more than 400 tips and have not confirmed any credible sightings of the girl. But the sheriff said he has a "100 percent expectation that she's alive."  Deputies are also trying to solve the killings of Jayme's parents, James Closs, 56, and Denise Closs, 46, in the small city of Barron. During a 911 call shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, the dispatcher heard a disturbance in the background. But no one spoke directly to the dispatcher, Fitzgerald said.  When deputes arrived to the home less than four minutes later, Fitzgerald said, no one was in sight and no vehicles were in the immediate area. Closs' parents were fatally shot and their deaths have been ruled homicides, Fitzgerald said Wednesday. No gun was found at the scene, he said. |

A sheriff's department dispatch log reveals new information about the night that missing Wisconsin teenager Jayme Closs' parents were found dead -- including that a 911 call appeared to have come from her mother's cell phone, and that the door to the family's home had been kicked in.  Authorities have been searching for Jayme Closs, 13, since early Monday, when a mysterious 911 call led deputies to discover that her parents had been shot dead at the family's home in northwestern Wisconsin's Barron County. Investigators say Jayme apparently vanished just after the shootings and is in danger. An Amber Alert was issued for her Monday, and the FBI has added her to its online list of kidnapped or missing people.  "We believe Jayme was in the home at the time of the homicides and we believe she's still in danger," Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said this week. |

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald on Monday asked for 2,000 volunteers to help authorities in an expanded routine search of the area around the crime scene Tuesday for possible evidence in the investigation into Jayme Closs' disappearance. The teenager vanished early October 15 and her parents were found fatally shot in their home near the city of Barron in northwestern Wisconsin. Barron, a city of less 3 square miles, has a population of about 3,300, according to US Census figures.
Monday's call for volunteers is 10 times the number of volunteers the sheriff sought last week. Fitzgerald said more people are needed to help search a bigger area.
The sheriff also released photos of two "vehicles of interest" captured on surveillance footage near the Closs home during the killings.
The search for a missing 13-year-old Wisconsin girl whose parents were killed in the family's home was expanded Tuesday, with as many as 2,000 volunteers taking in a grid search of the area.

The family of Jayme Closs spoke out in a public appeal Wednesday in Wisconsin as they continue to hope for the safe return of their ‘sweet Jayme.’ She has been missing since Monday, October 15 when her parents Denise, 46, and James, 56, were brutally gunned down in the family’s home in Barron, Wisconsin and, officers believe, 13-year-old Jayme was taken. Investigators announced a $25,000 reward for any tips leading to her location. Two thousand volunteers teamed up with law enforcement agents on Tuesday to search a five-and-a-half mile radius around the Closs family home in Barron, WI. The reward for information leading to the whereabouts of 13-year-old Wisconsin girl whose parents were killed has been doubled, to $50,000.  The Barron County Sheriff's Department said in a statement Friday that the Jennie-O Turkey Store, James and Denise Closs worked, has helped raise the reward from the $25,000 offered earlier by the FBI. Sheriff's officials say investigators have received more than 1,700 tips in the suspected abduction of Jayme Closs and killing of her parents, who were gunned down early on Oct. 15 in their home near Barron, a rural community about 80 miles (130 kilometers) northeast of Minneapolis. |
