Ritchie Blackmore has admitted that the Rainbow reunion shows of 2016 could have been better. He said the new lineup should had rehearsed more before the performances. The former Deep Purple guitarist staged a “return to rock” after focusing on his medieval-themed Blackmore’s Night group for the past two decades. He recruited a new singer, Ronnie Romero, but the performances received mixed reviews, including a negative vote from Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton. “I think that Ronnie is a very good performer and he gives the rest of us the freedom to concentrate on what we're doing,” Blackmore told Eclipsed Rock Magazine (via Rainbow Fan Clan). “For some time I thought that it's very important to be very fast on the guitar, and some of the songs need that kind of fast playing. But at some point in my career I knew I don't want to come from A to B with as many notes as possible. Today I think less is more. Looking back on our first shows, I think that we should have rehearsed a bit more, and the shows would have been a lot better. I also think that I didn't really perform every song of the set quite well.” However, Blackmore was full of praise for his current bandmates. “It's really a lot of fun to play with this band," he said. "The other guys are getting more and more confident. And Ronnie Romero is a fantastic singer. On the other side, I'm happy to play for all the fans that grew up with my old music. The shows in the very big halls or arenas are almost to completely sold out.”

Asked to compare the 21st-century Rainbow lineup to those form the past, Blackmore said, “I will say something now that is probably gonna upset a lot of Cozy Powell and [Ronnie James] Dio fans, but that's really how I think: This lineup is the best lineup Rainbow ever had. On the other side, I'm always in the now onstage and offstage, which means that I had always loved the current lineup of any band I was in the most.” Glenn Hughes said before the shows that he’d been invited to take part, but had declined. “Rainbow was always my vision," Blackmore said. "So it's natural that you're surrounding yourself with new people. I feel that playing with unknown musicians is much more inspiring. Deep Purple was Jon Lord and myself. … When we're playing ‘Child in Time,’ I always think of him. ‘Soldier of Fortune.’ which was written by David Coverdale and myself, is another one of those songs. Jon loved that song.”

RAINBOW singer Ronnie Romero has exited LORDS OF BLACK. He announced his departure from the Spanish melodic progressive metal band in a post on his Facebookpage. Ronnie wrote: "Just to inform that since some weeks ago I did leave my 'job' as lead singer in LORDS OF BLACK. Almost five years of good music, great experiences and too much love and support from the fans around the world. Means a lot, so THANKS so much to all!! All the best to my ex-bandmates in their career." LORDS OF BLACK guitarist Tony Hernando added in a separate statement: "I just want to confirm that Ronnie Romero is no longer the singer for LORDS OF BLACK. This is something that I knew when I was already working on new LORDS OF BLACKmusic, and, as you can imagine, it's something disappointing and truly heartbreaking. "I respect his decision, and I can only say it has been a great journey these five years making great music together and achieving goals that seemed impossible. For that I will be forever grateful. "Now it's time to find a new singer, get the band at full speed again and make the best album yet. I want to be clear about confirming that LORDS OF BLACK will be at Leyendas Del Rock festival in August, and other live gigs are being booked at the moment. Last but not least, I want to thank YOU the fans! You have been amazing and I will give you everything I have! LORDS OF BLACK rules!!"

RAINBOW will release a new digital single, "The Storm", on May 17 via Minstrel Hall Music. The song is said to be "a rocked-up remake" of an old BLACKMORE'S NIGHT track from the album "Fires At Midnight", which was issued back in 2001.
Last month, RAINBOW issued a newly recorded version of its song "Black Sheep Of The Family".
The original recording of "Black Sheep Of The Family" — a cover of a track by the band QUATERMASS from 1970 — was included on RAINBOW's debut album, 1975's "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow".
The first new RAINBOW single since 1996, "Waiting For A Sign", was released in March 2018. The song was penned by Ritchie Blackmore, with lyrics by his wife Candice Night and vocals from RAINBOW's current singer, Ronnie Romero, who is originally from Chile but is now settled in Madrid.

Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow have released a stream of their new single. It’s titled The Storm, and it follows Black Sheep Of The Family, which appeared last month. The Storm originally appeared on Blackmore’s Night album Fires At Midnight – which was released back in 2001, although the new version, as you might expect, has a much harder and rockier edge. Blackmore is joined in the current Rainbow lineup by vocalist Ronnie Romero, Stratovarius keyboard player Jens Johansson, Blackmore's Night drummer David Keith and bassist Bob Nouveau. In 2017, the band released their first new recordings in over two decades: a re-working of the band’s 1981 hit I Surrender – originally sung by Joe Lynn Turner – and a cover of Edward Elgar’s Land Of Hope And Glory.
