As they plan for next year’s wedding, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been making themselves comfortable in the perfect starter home: Nottingham Cottage.
It was at the 1,300-square-foot, two-bedroom home in the compound of Kensington Palace that they were cooking roast chicken when Harry got down on one knee and formally asked Meghan to marry him.
And it was there, this time last year, that they spent the holiday season together, heading out to Battersea, just across the River Thames, to buy their first Christmas tree so they could mark the holidays in style.
By royal standards, it is a relatively humble abode. Former police protection officer Ken Wharfe tells PEOPLE. “It’s a lovely, classic Victorian cottage. It’s probably two-up, three [rooms] down. It’s not very big, incredibly small.”

Best man Prince William is insisting on somewhere more private. That could mean Richard Branson’s luxury Caribbean island Necker. For Wills does not want a repeat of the infamous Vegas trip where Harry was filmed playing naked billiards. The brothers are determined to have one final blow-out before Harry weds US actress Meghan Markle.

The coming marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is shaping up to be the wedding of the decade, and everyone from designers to caterers to photographers is hustling to get involved. Reprezent Radio, handed Prince Harry his business card during the royal couple's visit to the station Tuesday. "I’ll DJ at your wedding," he called out to the prince, who initially seemed confused by the small glittery card before grinning and – to Letford's delight – quickly pocketing it. Letford, the DJ, already has a mix in mind that would combine Harry and Markle’s uniqueness and modernity with hallmarks of royalty and some appropriate tunes. "With this wedding, it's quite unique so there'd have to be an element of tradition,” Letford told "Good Morning Britain." “But I’d throw in a few surprises as well … there’d be some cheese, too.”

While plans for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding on May 19 are fully under way, it appears as if there's one area that's been overlooked—the role of best man. In a surprising (and somewhat adorable) confession Prince William admitted that his younger brother hadn't actually asked him to be best man at his impending nuptials. The royal joked, "He hasn't asked me yet, just to clear that up—it could be a sensitive issue." The question popped up during a group discussion for the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a charity aimed at preventing male suicide through open discussion which has recently launched a "Best Man Project" celebrating men's friendship.

When Prince Harry announced his engagement to Meghan Markle, some monarchists worried the glamorous American actress would overshadow more senior members of the Royal Family. Well, it hasn’t taken long for their fears to be realised, owing to cackhanded scheduling by courtiers. This Thursday, Harry and Meghan make their first joint visit to Wales, but it will take place on the same day as Prince William is due to carry out engagements elsewhere.
