Taylor Swift is hard at work on the movie musical version of the hit show Cats.
And on Monday the 29-year-old Reputation singer shared some sultry images from the set.
The blonde beauty - who dates Joe Alwyn - said in her caption, 'This trailer courtesy of Cats the film. Cat hair on my jacket courtesy of actual cats, Meredith and Olivia.'
Taylor Swift is trying her hand at this whole acting thing, and as part of getting into character for her role in the movie Cats, she's fully embracing her new identity as a literal cat.
Rebel Wilson posted an Instagram Story of the call sheet for the movie, and it lists a bunch of cast member's names next to their characters, including some very serious acteurs like Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, and Idris Elba.
But next to Taylor Swift's character, Bombalurina, it doesn't say "Taylor Swift." It just says Bombalurina, which is odd considering hers is the only name that doesn't appear on the sheet.
Sure, it could just be a mixup, but it's also possible that Taylor is so committed to her role that she refuses to even use her real name during rehearsals. It takes of a lot of concentration to be a cat, probably. No distractions allowed! The old Taylor can't come to the phone right now because she's too busy being an animal, or something.
The cast of the upcoming Cats movie is jam-packed with stars of stage, screen, and music. One of the biggest names in the cast is, of course, superstar Taylor Swift. And we finally have some info on who she's playing!
In an Instagram post on Jan. 22, Swift snapped a pic of herself in front of her trailer with the sign revealing her character's name: Bombalurina. While the flirty, glam Bombalurina isn't quite as recognizable of a name as some of the other Cats characters like Grizabella or the Rum Tum Tugger, she's definitely well-known to fans of the musical, and she participates in some of the crucial moments of the story.
In the stage version of the musical, Bombalurina starts out as just one of many Jellicle Cats introduced at the beginning. She soon begins to stand out from the crowd, singing "The Old Gumbie Cat" with two other cats, Demeter and Jellylorum. When the Rum Tum Tugger appears, she sings a small solo in his signature song and flirts with him as well. Bombalurina's parts throughout the musical are pretty similar to this: featured moments within larger songs, which she also has in "Grizabella, the Glamour Cat" and "Bustopher Jones."
Andrew Lloyd Webber fans listen up, a movie version of your favourite musical, Cats is coming, starring Taylor Swift as Bombalurina and Idris Elba as the villainous Macavity.
Production on the film adaptation started this month at Warner Bros studios, Leavesden, England and the all star cast doesn't just stop at Taylor and Idris.
Jennifer Hudson, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellan, James Corden, Rebel Wilson and last but by no means least, Jason Derulo, have all signed up to embrace their inner feline. In fact Jennifer revealed to her The Voice co-stars that she has been watching videos of actual cats to help her learn to move like one.
The film, which is being directed by Les Misérables director Tom Hooper, with heavy involvement from ALW (that's Andrew Lloyd Webber btw) himself, is set for release on 20th December 2019.
Which means you can expect a lot of Memory renditions at your office Christmas party this year. Although we imagine no one will match Jennifer, who in her role as Grizabella the Glamour Cat, will be belting out the epic tune. A song that has also been covered by Elaine Page, Barbra Streisland and Nicole Sherzinger.
Bombalurina does have one big moment in the spotlight: "Macavity, The Mystery Cat," which comes near the end of the musical. In the original version of the musical, she sang the song as a solo, but in most subsequent stagings, Demeter assists her in telling the story of Macavity (to be played by Idris Elba, Swift's copresenter at January's Golden Globes).
Although she sings in several songs, Swift's character is actually pretty minor when it comes to the actual plot of Cats (although the plot itself isn't overly complicated to begin with). She's more of a side character who adds color — often literally: she's typically identified by the bright red fur of her costume.
In most scenes, she's part of the "Gumbie Trio" that consists of herself, Demeter, and Jellylorum. So why would producers cast Swift, one of the biggest names in the music world right now, as a minor character?
