Tennis fans are in a frenzy after Eugenie Bouchard was granted a wildcard to play at the French Open.
Tournament organisers announced on Tuesday that Bouchard, Andy Murray and Tsvetana Pironkova had been given wildcards for the claycourt grand slam beginning later this month.
Bouchard, who reached the French Open semi-finals in 2014, has been playing claycourt tournaments since the season restarted last month and got to the final of the Istanbul Open where she lost in three sets on Sunday.
It was the Canadian’s first final in more than four years, however she lost in a third-set tiebreaker.
She lost to eventual champion Maria Sharapova in the French Open semi-finals in 2014, the same year she reached the Wimbledon final.
The 26-year-old climbed as high as World No.5 that year, but has since struggled with consistency.
Her run to the final in Istanbul saw her ranking climb from 272 to 167.
“I’m honestly shocked,” Bouchard told TSN about her reaction to getting the French Open wildcard.
Fans were also over the moon at the prospect of seeing Bouchard in action at a grand slam again.

Former World No.5 Eugenie Bouchard has earned back-to-back victories at a Grand Slam for the first time in three years so far in Paris, but is staying in the moment as her return to form continues to gain momentum. Former World No.5 and 2014 Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard says she's 'proud' and 'grateful' to be having her best-ever Grand Slam in more than three years with her efforts so far at the French Open. Currently ranked World No.168, the 26-year-old is a wildcard entry into this year's main draw, and with victories over Russia's Anna Kalinskaya and Australia's Daria Gavrilova, is into the third round at a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2017 Australian Open. The consecutive victories are the Canadian's first in Paris since she reached the semifinals in 2014, where she lost to eventual champion Maria Sharapova during what became her career-best season. "I'm proud of taking advantage of the opportunities. There are so few tournaments this year. Especially with my ranking, I was very limited with what I could play. First of all, very grateful to the French federation for giving me the wildcard here," Bouchard said after Wednesday's 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 win against Gavrilova, herself a former Top 20 player working on a comeback after a nearly year-long foot injury. "Also grateful to them for making such a big effort to put this tournament on. We're all just so grateful to have jobs, have a big event to kind of end our season. You just have to be so grateful for every opportunity. "I've tried to push myself in every chance I've had because I know there are so few." Against Gavrilova, Bouchard bounced back after losing the opening set despite having had a 4-1, double-break lead. A 5-2 lead in the second set held up for the Canadian, despite being unable to convert three earlier set points on serve in the eighth game, and ultimately won four of the last five games from 2-2 in the final set. "It was a physical match. She's a very tough opponent, gets a lot of balls back, is also able to mix it up," Bouchard assessed. "I'm just super proud of myself... I think after I went up in the first set, I kind of maybe backed off a little bit, let her take control of the points a bit too much. To her credit, she played well, took that first set.

Canadian wild-card entry Eugenie Bouchard's best Grand Slam since 2017 is over after a third-round loss at the French Open on Friday. Polish teenager Iga Swiatek advanced to the fourth round of the clay-court Grand Slam for the second consecutive year with a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Canadian. "I felt like I played a very good opponent," Bouchard said. "She was putting pressure on me from the beginning. I tried to counter that and tried to put pressure back. But I was missing my shots by small margins and making some mistakes I haven't really made in recent matches. I definitely felt a little off today." Bouchard, from Westmount, Que., made it to the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2017 Australian Open. Ranked 168th in the world, Bouchard got a wild-card into the French Open after reaching the final at a clay-court tournament in Istanbul last month. A former world No. 5 after reaching the Wimbledon final in 2014, Bouchard's ranking has tumbled in recent years.

Call this a new kind of love-love for tennis star Genie Bouchard ... TMZ Sports has confirmed she's now dating Pittsburgh Steelers QB Mason Rudolph!!! A source close to the couple tells us the two began a romantic fling recently ... and have gotten pretty serious. In fact, 26-year-old Genie was just spotted at a fancy restaurant in Pittsburgh this week ... posting a pic of her at the place with the caption, "Pitt stop." 25-year-old Mason -- who was presumably on the other end of the camera -- dropped a "like" on the photo. Of course, the new relationship means the end of a possible old one for Rudolph ... as we previously reported, the quarterback had been seen in L.A. in April getting cozy with "Bachelor" star Hannah Ann Sluss. Unclear how serious the two were ... but Rudolph's clearly moved on either way.

Genie Bouchard and Mason Rudolph could be getting serious ... the tennis star showed up to the Steelers game Sunday with friends to cheer on her new beau!!! We broke the story ... Genie and the Steelers backup QB kicked off a romantic fling recently -- and clearly, the fire is still burning hot. 'Cause just weeks after 26-year-old Genie was spotted out and about near Rudolph's Pittsburgh-area home ... she headed to 25-year-old Mason's game against the Titans in Tennessee. And, while Mason didn't play in the win (he's backing up a healthy Ben Roethlisberger this season) ... didn't seem Genie minded too much -- check out her smile!!! Yeah, looks smitten to us!! Neither Genie nor Mason has gone public with the relationship yet ... but posting pics from games means we could be getting close to IG offish any day now.
