With album of the year and record of the year nominations, one of the defining pop artists of the 2010s is finally a competitor in the Big Four categories.
Ariana Grande won the first Grammy of her career earlier this year, when her fourth album, Sweetener, took home the best pop vocal album trophy at the 2019 ceremony in February. Nine months later, Grande has arguably earned an even more significant Grammy achievement: multiple nominations in the four general categories.
On Wednesday morning (Nov. 20), it was announced that Grande’s Thank U, Next album had been one of the eight projects nominated for album at the year at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards. Meanwhile, “7 Rings,” one of two No. 1 singles from the album along with its title track, will compete for record of the year. (Sadly, the “My Favorite Things”-interpolating “7 Rings” was not also nominated in song of the year, the major songwriting category; otherwise, Rodgers & Hammerstein would have been posthumously competing for one of the top Grammys in 2020.)

Ariana Grande straight-up ripped off the lyrics and melody to "7 Rings" -- so claims a songwriter who says he recorded basically the same song 2 years earlier.
Josh Stone claims in a new lawsuit -- obtained by TMZ -- he wrote a song called "You Need It, I Got It" in January 2017 ... 2 years BEFORE Ariana recorded "7 Rings."
Stone -- who goes by Dot -- notes in his suit, the hook to Ariana's song is, "I want it, I got it, I want it, I got it." His hook is, "You need it, I got it. You want it, I got it."
He also says the 2 songs have identical metrical placement of the paired phrases.
