DOKKEN is planning to enter the studio in December to begin writing a new studio album for a tentative spring 2019 release. The disc will mark the band's first collection of all-new material since 2012's "Broken Bones" effort. Speaking with Tigman of the Poughkeepsie, New York radio station Z93, DOKKEN frontman Don Dokken stated about the band's upcoming touring activities (hear audio below): "Actually, we're winding down. We've got four shows on the West Coast [in November] and we're calling it a day for two months so we can write a new record. We're gonna write it in December and January and we'll have it out in the spring. We have a new record company, and we're just gonna put a new record out for the spring for the next tour." Don went on to say that DOKKEN will release "a couple of videos" to promote the new disc. After "Broken Bones" failed to meet his expectations commercially, Don Dokken publicly questioned whether the band should or would make another record. He was also ruthlessly criticized by fans after radiation treatments from a bout with stomach cancer and eventual vocal-cord surgery hurt his performances.

Don Dokken has told Metal Forever in a new interview that DOKKEN will "probably" headline this year's edition of the M3 Rock Festival as a one-off reunion show with the band's former guitarist George Lynch. DOKKEN's classic lineup — including Lynch and bassist/vocalist Jeff Pilson — reunited for a short Japanese tour in the fall of 2016. The trek marked the first time in 21 years the four musicians had hit the road together. Don told Metal Forever (hear audio below): "We did the reunion tour. In fact, we might be doing one more show with the original lineup, with George — one show. We'll probably be headlining M3 this year with George." The M3 Rock Festival will take place May 3-5 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. According to Don, he has been getting along with his former bandmates much better than they did back in DOKKEN's heyday. "We were younger [then]," he said. "We were in our 20s. There was a lot of drugs, debauchery, alcohol, a lot of egos — all that stuff interfered with DOKKEN going on forever. But now we're in our 60s, so I think hopefully that's all in the wind."

Don Dokken recently spoke to the WSOU radio station about the progress of the songwriting sessions for DOKKEN's new album — the group's first since 2012's "Broken Bones".
"The problem we're having is we're booked solid till August on tour," he said (hear audio below). "So we're, like, 'When do we have time to record?' You fly out on a Thursday, you play Friday, you play Saturday and you fly home on Sunday, and you sleep it off by Monday and you've got two days to record. So we're trying. But the good news is since 'Broken Bones', it's been four years, so we have an insane amount of material. I mean, Jon's [Levin, guitar] written 20 songs, Mick's [Brown, drums] written eight songs, I've written 20 songs. We have so much material. I actually wrote eight songs that are finished almost a year ago for the record. So we're close. We're gonna put 13 on the record, maybe 14, so we're only about five song short. So we're trying.' We're booked literally till August, and then September, we're supposed to go to Europe. So we're trying to figure out where do we record? When do we record? So we're sneaking in a day here and a day there. I go to Jon's. We all have Pro Tools rigs. They come to my house, and I go to their house. We're just woodshedding right now, so it's getting close. But we don't know when we can into the studio for three or four weeks non-stop when we're booked. It looks like June, we only have one show so far — in Florida, with Yngwie Malmsteen. So we're planning on knocking a record out in June, but we don't know if that'll be too late to make it out for the summer."
Dokken said that the new album will be released through Silver Lining Music, the label owned by Thomas Jensen, one of the founders of Germany's Wacken Open Air festival.
"They're really excited about the new record, 'cause it's been over four years," Don said. "And we wanna make sure of all the songs — 20, 25 songs — we have the luxury of picking the very, very best songs we have, and that's something we're doing now. We've all been listening to the demos. I send the songs to the band blind. 'Hey, Chris[McCarvill, bass], just give me an A or a B or an F.' I send it to Mick: 'What's this song? An A or a B or a C or a D?' And Jon. So, all the As will hopefully make it on the record."

George Lynch rejoined DOKKEN on stage last night (Friday, March 6) at the Hard Rock Live in Biloxi, Mississippi to perform three of the band's classic songs: "Kiss Of Death", "When Heaven Comes Down" and "Tooth And Nail". The reunion was the first of several DOKKEN live appearances this year which include what is being billed as a "special encore performance" featuring Lynch and Don Dokken.
Fan-filmed video footage of the Biloxi concert can be seen below.
Last night's gig marked Don Dokken's first full live performance since he underwent neck and spine surgery in November, leaving him unable to play guitar.
Longtime DOKKEN guitarist Jon Levin introduced Lynch by stating: "It's such an honor to play for everybody here. For all of you, you know I never speak — I probably have never spoken once at a DOKKEN show — but it's a special honor for me to be able to do this tonight, because one of my all-time favorite effin' guitar players is here tonight. And it's such a privilege for me to be able to play and introduce him. So please give it up for George Lynch. You know who he is. Let's fucking hear it.
