In their first meeting since this year's Australian Open final, Li once again proved too strong, winning in a little over two and a half hours. Li's victory saw her advance safely to Friday's semi-finals, where she will play either Sloane Stephens or Flavia Pennetta. Li, named top seed in Indian Wells, had battled hard just to reach the quarters and struggled with her serve, committing eight double faults. Cibulkova also made eight doubles and the pair combined for more than 100 unforced errors as the stakes and tension rose in the deciding third set. Li got the decisive break late in the third set then served out victory to stay on course for her first title in the Californian desert.

Second-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska turned the tables on Simona Halep on Friday, beating the sixth-seeded Romanian 6-3, 6-4 to reach the women's final at Indian Wells. After losing to Radwanska in their first three meetings, 22-year-old Halep had won the last two, including a victory over the world number three in the semi-finals at Doha en route to the Qatar Open crown last month. Halep had Radwanska on the run most of the match, but Radwanska was up to the challenge, continually chasing down balls and making some well-placed returns. Radwanska was unable to convert on her first two match points on Halep's serve in the ninth game. Radwanska's swinging forehand volley set up her third in the next game and she won on Halep's backhand that went wide. Halep, who had 21 winners, is projected to move up two spots to a career-best No. 5 in the world in Monday's rankings, the highest ever by a Romanian woman.

Flavia Pennetta captures +BNP Paribas Open title with 62 61 win over Agnieszka Radwanska. The No.2-seeded Radwanska, who was treated during the match for a knee injury, was clearly far from her best, making 18 unforced errors in the first set alone. She never really found her range while the No.20-seeded Pennetta had hers down pat, cruising to a 62 61 victory in an hour and 13 minutes. It was Pennetta's 10th and - at the Premier Mandatory level - biggest WTA title. Of her previous nine, one was a regular Premier event (Los Angeles in 2009) and eight were at the International level.
