My first concert was a Westlife one. I even have a commemorative 2001 bean filled bear to remind me of the occasion. It wasn’t something cool like Arctic Monkeys or a hazy recollection of Greenday at my first Reading festival. I was a full-blown, annual Wembley-stadium-gig-attending Westlife fan until the age of 12. So you can imagine my distress when, in 2011, they announced it would all be over after a Greatest Hits album and farewell tour. What a way to go. However, the boys haven’t completely slipped through the dazzling net of stardom. Nicky and Kian became celebrity C-Listers with the former’s performance on Strictly Come Dancing and the latter’s win on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! Alas, it has not been a happy ending for all. Frontman Shane announced almost immediately after the split that he was 18 million pounds bankrupt. But he’s bounced back with a solo career and appearance on X Factor, so there’s no stopping him now. That love for the music; sometimes you just can’t fight it. A WESTLIFE gig in Yeovil has been cancelled. A fifth of one of the world’s biggest boy bands Shane Filan will no longer perform at the Westlands Leisure Complex on July 18. An announcement on the venue’s website said tickets will be honoured at the Bridgwater concert, at the Blake Hall, on July 19, or a refund given if preferred. The Irish-born singer, one of the band’s lead singers, was due to appear with a full live band at the event. So far the venue has not given a reason for the cancellation. Westlife received 28 platinum discs and sold 40 million records worldwide. The band formed in July 1998 and disbanded in June 2012.

Hundreds of boy band fans flocked to Rochester Castle last night to see Westlife idol, Shane Filan on stage. The group's former lead singer was one of four acts which appeared at the Castle Concerts gig. Before the Irish hearthrob wooded the ladies with some of the band’s best known hits, the crowds were treated to some fantastic performances by three TV talent show successes.
Medway’s own Jamie Johnson. a finalist in The Voice, was first on stage and performed several well-known tracks including Kings of Leon’s Sex on Fire, and Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered, which really go the crowd in the mood.
Then it was time for former Westlife singer Shane Filan to woo the ladies at the front of the stage. He sold more than 45 million records worldwide as part of a boy band and this was his first solo open air concert in Britain.
And he didn’t disappoint, getting the crowds going by singing Uptown Girl, Flying Without Wings, You Raise Me Up and What About Now along with covers of recent chart-toppers.

He's best known for being a member of a boyband, not a football team. But former Westlife star Nicky Byrne will open the Dale Farm Milk Cup tomorrow – a competition he played in on three occasions. The Dubliner will head a parade of competing teams through Coleraine from The Diamond to The Showgrounds for one of the largest youth football tournaments on the globe. The summer tournament has attracted names from the world of junior football and hosted a range of international and Premiership stars over the years, including David Beckham. The singer is famous for his skills with the microphone, but he also has talents on the football field as he established himself as a professional goalkeeper at a young age. He has been previously linked with the Milk Cup, as he competed at the event for Home Farm and Leeds United. He played for the Republic of Ireland at U-15 and U-16 levels and at 18 was signed by the Elland Road side. The star was asked to open this year's competition after he mentioned the tournament during an interview. Tournament chairman Victor Leonard said this prompted organisers to "try and get the ball rolling" to invite him. Nicky said: "I'm proud to be invited to open the Dale Farm Milk Cup. I played in the competition three times, twice with Home Farm and later with Leeds United. "I have great memories of wonderful times competing at the tournament, playing matches at Portrush and Coleraine. We won the Plate competition with Home Farm, beating Everton in the final." Byrne has also been a part of Soccer Aid, which sees celebrities and football legends come together to raise money for UNICEF. Tickets are available through the website www.dalefarmmilkcup.com.

Shane Filan, former member of Irish boyband Westlife is coming to Manila once again to perform for Filipino fans in a one night concert in October. According to a press release, Shane will stage his concert on October 1 at the World Trade Center, Manila. This is the first major show Shane will do in Manila since the group’s farewell tour in 2011. The concert is also part of his You & Me World Tour to promote his debut album. Shane was recently in Manila to promote the album and the first single "Everything to Me." Unlike the albums he did with Westlife, the songs in the album contain a mixture of pop. soul, country and traditional Irish music. Born and raised in Sligo, Ireland, Shane, together with Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Nicky Byrne and Brian McFadden, formed Westlife in 1999. Their song "Swear It Again,” became a success in the music charts. After 10 albums and over 50 million sales, the band amicably split up, ending with a farewell tour in 2012. Shane then decided to go solo and released the album You & Me in November 2013 under MCA Music. Tickets to Shane Filan live in Manila are available through SM Tickets, Ticketnet and TicketWorld outlets.

Talking to OK! Online at the launch of his autobiography My Side of Life, the 35-year-old said: "It's a question I get asked every single day and something like that is down to all of us. "There are no plans to write now – that is the honest truth but there's always a chance it could happen. "Down the line it could happen but it might not either. It's something you can't predict."
Although the Irish crooner, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan and Mark Feehily still, to this day, agree with the decision to part ways when they did, they still long for the good old days. "We all reminisce and of course you miss certain things about it because it's part of your life," he told us.
Shane barely sees his former band mates as they've naturally drifted apart but he's insisted there's no bad blood between them. He said: "There's no bitterness there. We've literally gone opposite directions in our life. We're all individually doing our own things now and finding out our own careers, our own lives and we all seem to be very happy at the moment. We'll just have to wait and see. It could happen. If it did, it'd be down the line I think."
