Shohei Ohtani + HR Derby + Coors Field = WE CANNOT WAIT!!! | The Rich Eisen Show | 6/18/21
Rich Eisen reacts to the big news that Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani will take part in the MLB All-Star Game Home Run Derby at Coors Field this summer.
Watch the Rich Eisen Show, an Emmy-nominated sports talk show, streaming live on NBC's Peacock, Audacy, and SiriusXM Ch. 211 Monday through Friday, noon--3 PM ET.
Showcasing Rich Eisen’s uncanny ability to blend insightful sports expertise with an offbeat mix of humor and pop culture, The Rich Eisen Show attracts the most recognizable names in sports and entertainment.
Two-way star Shohei Ohtani is known for his prodigious power and has put on legendary displays during batting practice. And now he’ll get his chance to show it on the big stage, as he announced Friday that he’s set to participate in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby at Coors Field on July 12.
This will mark the first Home Run Derby for Ohtani, who currently ranks third in MLB with 19 home runs. Ohtani, who won the 2016 Nippon Professional Baseball Home Run Derby, is the first Japanese-born player to participate in MLB's version.
The best Home Run Derby moments ever Angels manager Joe Maddon said earlier this week that he was fine with Ohtani participating in the event.
"I'm not as against that as others," Maddon said. "I just don't like it when it becomes never-ending. There's got to be a more finite way of doing it. It can be exhausting. But again, it's something where I would want to ask him how he felt about it. He will be honest. I don't think this is something you want to force him to do or not to do."
